Builder's Best 84033 Galvanized Steel Roof Vent Cap with Damper & Removable Screen, 6" Diameter Collar, Black (New 2021)

I bought this Galvanized Steel Roof Vent Cap to vent a dryer, which was a mistake as the vent cap incorporates a collar. A vent cap with a collar works well on a new roof, before the shingles are installed. On an already shingled roof, the collar doesn't allow for the vent cap to slide under the shingles. In my case, it was a little too late to purchase another vent cap, so I simply cut the collar off from the vent cap, thus allowing the vent cap to slide under the shingles.Installation is not difficult, however, if you’re not handy in doing this type of work, I wouldn’t recommend it because a leaky roof can be costly. I did apply a generous amount of roof sealant under the top and side of the vent cap. Didn’t apply any sealant under the lower end of cap to allow for any moisture to escape. The vent cap comes with a screen, which should be removed to prevent dryer lint from clogging it. Trapped lint may cause the dryer to overheat or lint to come in contact with the dryer’s heating elements and could start a fire.I give it a five-star review because it looks great, it appears well built and does what it’s supposed to do. So far, I recommend it.

No complaints... it works as advertised... and is beefy enough I believe it will last.

Easy to install, as long as you are actually a good DIYer. Installed as a roof vent cap to go with the vent, heat, and light that I installed in the bathroom. This roof vent cap works great and the 4" opening was a snug fit, so it did not move around the roof while I was trying to seal the seated areas on the roof. The 4" diameter vent duct was a snug fit on the this vent cap, so it made it a little harder to install the vent duct. Otherwise, this is a great roof vent cap.

Replaced my old oversized one with this BB 4” dryer vent cap in Nov ‘22. Upward circulation works better- old vent created too much settling in the exhaust channel.Inspected it in May this year- black coating’s holding up in my tropical climate and entire vent screen covered with dust. Make sure to clean regularly- a blocked screen makes dryer much hotter to the touch and creates fire hazard. Screen’s easily screwed in/out and keeps birds away.

I needed a 6" duct collar for a kitchen exhaust vent I recently put in over my island. Lowes and Depot do not carry anything bigger than 4" roof vents or collars. Ordered from Amazon instead on a Sunday and got on Monday through Prime. W00t!!I see what other reviewers have said about the mesh on the front only being held on by one screw. It does seem a bit cheap, but I'm not sure any critters in my areas (mainly squirrels) would be able to get into it. Regardeless, used 2 self tapping pan head screws to tighten up the corners on it. I'm sure it will hold.Overall, works and looks great. Had no problems with the quality of the caulking or painting or the operation of the flapper. I need to redo my bathroom vent and will definitely look at these products again.

I just bought two of these and had them professionally installed. When a roofer tells you that what you bought for him to install is of a really good quality, that's quite a validation. We all know that many roofers will just install whatever is available from the local box stores, the cheapest, etc. But after reading many of the reviews here, I decided that this was the best option.One of the leading flanges needed to be slightly straightened with a soft blow hammer, but other than that they arrived in great shape. No big deal. After reading some reviews that mentioned premature rust, I decided to give them both an inside and out rattle can spray coat of heavy duty Krylon paint that was meant for severe conditions. So my expectation is that this additional barrier will allow them to outlast one that was simply installed right out of the box.Everything that I saw for sale at the local Home Depot and Lowe's was junk in my opinion. These are worth a little more money and the small wait for free shipping.

Ordered this item arrived sooner than the shipper stated. This vent cap is well constructed and well finished. I cannot comment on how easy the installation is as I haven't got that far in the project yet, but it seems that it will be a fairly simple project.

Build quality is excellent. Install was a breeze during new roofing application. The collar is quite big so if you install it on a existing roof you might have to take out more nails than with an other brand. Use some roofing screws in black for the front of the vent for a clean look and make sure not to over tighten the screws else the rubber washers won't seal properly

Sturdy, looks good and works well.The reason for the 4STAR rating is the built in wind baffle rattles when the vent fan is on, not to bad but noticeable from outside

Worded out just fine for the job, but I had to return it and that went well.

This is very sturdy and well-built. The collar as other people have said is a little larger than I expected so I did have to pull out a few more nails. It looks great on the roof and I’m sure it will outlast my 30 year shingles.

This is a strong well made unit, BUT the size is exactly 6in and the pipe is also exactly 6inso the 2 will not fit together without stretching the pipe ,why cant manufacturers get there act together and make things that fit right, they know a pipe must fit on to this so why not make it 5 -7\8 that way the pipe would just slid on ,that is why the 4 stars
