VW Golf, GTI, & Jetta, '99 Thru '05, Automotive Repair Manual (all 4-cylinder gas engines; TDI diesel engine, 1999-2004)

Before purchasing this book, I would rely solely on videos searchable on the web for parts info and repair procedures. For the most part, many things can been found that way for these VW's, but it can be hard to get more structured methods that have all the necessary oem spec details. Sometimes accuracy of information can be an issue too. So, for me, I reached a point where I needed more to supplement my learning. This is the first Haynes book I've bought, but I've been recommended them before, so I figured I would try it, not expecting much, but for a glovebox reference at least--I bought an 03 gti recently with no book in the glovebox. I was surprised to find that this book is so much more than a glovebox reference. This book has everything you need to know to do any standard repair, keep your maintenance schedule, and never have to take your car in to a shop if you don't want to. And if you do take it to a shop, this book will help you know what's going on, and will give tips on how to prioritize the work you pay to have done--essentially, this book can save you from being taken advantage of.Bottom line; this book is worth it for both the thorough DIY person, as well as for the person just looking to take care of their car with a plan for paying out repairs.

Book is great. What’s not to love. Too bad fixing my car will cost me 3x what it’s worth.

The Owner's Manual that comes with your Jetta is unbelievably complicated with multiple sections and it's as thick if not thicker than a phone book, and searching for easy topics is NOT easy. Thankfully the Haynes manual, in it's typically easy to follow manner is MUCH easier to use. For most people they need fairly simple things like how to change the cabin filter or even more advanced things like changing the mass air handler and such. You'd have to fumble for quite a few minutes in the owner's manual to find the cabin filter and the mass air handler...not at all. Most people knock Haynes as being too simplistic on some subjects like the electrical system, which is a fair criticism, but this isn't designed to be a service manual. This is for the more serious shade-tree mechanic who wants to tackle meatier stuff or someone trying to save a few bucks doing their own repair work. A lot of this can be found online and honestly sometimes that's easier, more detailed, and more quickly accessed than this or the owner's manual. But honestly I've never found major errors in the Haynes manual whereas what I've found online isn't always trustworthy. Best to buy it used and save some bucks, but worth having!

Great book. Easy to use and navigate. Good for diagnosing issues and doing small repairs. The Bentley manual is going to be way more detailed. I felt like the price was right for this book.

I own a mk4 Golf and this book has become my bible!I cannot stress enough how much better a book is than online sources for us DIY guys.The ability to flip through rather than click through the steps, especially when you're under the car, really helps the repair get done right.My only major complaint with this book is that it doesn't go into transmissions at all.It'll tell you how to drop it and install it, but that's about it.The engine overhaul section could've done with a few more pictures, but other than that this is a solid book.

Exactly what I needed and in excellent condition.

This manual seams to touch on everything about the car however does not go ito much detail in some areas. I bout it to help with a clutch replacement. I lacked in some details and pictures in that area. It also does not have all the bolt torque specs. However thous are easy to find online. Unless u are looking to spend around $150 on a great book (Benteler) this is probably the book for you. I does have good detail on other minor things you might want to do to your call like removing any panels interior or exterior, and preventative maintenance.

The book obviously is from 1999 but in excellent condition. No writing, cover in great condition, binding not broken, no bent pages.
