great chisels - some dangerously sharp side edges
These chisels are excellent, definitely makes morticing easier that using my usual bench chisels. They were sharp and square out of the box, just gave the edge a light polish and was on my way. The only issue I had was that some of them were sharp all over - ie the non cutting edges were sharp enough to cut my finger on while holding the chisel. This was quickly remedied with some fine sand paper to knock down the machining burrs on the corners (and a little superglue for my finger) then straight back to work. I've had great luck with Narex chisels over the years and will definitely look at their offerings first if I ever need to expand my collection in the future.

Great Value!
These seem to be a great value; please read the full review for a cautionary tale.I received the set of mortise chisels, and within an hour I was chopping out a 3" deep mortise in maple with no real issues. The backs were all close enough to flat that it didn't take more than 5-10 minutes lapping (longer on the largest size ) to get them dead flat polished. I haven't used them extensively as of yet, but they took and held a sharp edge well. One word of caution; the machining seems to leave ALL edges moderately sharp. This applies to every corner and edge of the chisel and shaft, not just the cutting edge. I'm not sure if they weren't deburred, etc., but I did put a very even set of slices into my index finger while lapping the smallest chisel as the top edges of the shaft were sharp enough to cut with moderate pressure. I took a break to quickly knock the non-cutting edges down with sandpaper and didn't have any more issues but I would absolutely recommend taking the time to ensure you don't slice your hands and fingers while lapping the tool right out of the box.

Great tools, great value.
I am an amateur woodworker. I bought these to make mortises in some 4x4 timbers that would become my workbench. While my work isn't stellar (okay, it's all a bit crooked), these performed exceptionally. Nice, clean cuts with easily controlled precision. A very satisfying experience. I was able to cut 4 mortises in about an hour, and I was taking my time. The tools look nice and are evidently well-made. They feel nice in the hand and take a good strike very well. If you've never used a cheap chisel before, there is a very unpleasant sensation in both hands when a mallet strikes a bunch of cheap wood and metal. It's like striking a stone with a shovel. These absorb a modest blow and drive straight.I did have to sharpen it somewhat quickly after the first use (I used right out of the box as they seemed plenty sharp to me), but once I honed it, it kept the edge for a surprising time.My only complaint is that there was no storage included, but that's mostly because I haven't fashioned a way to store them yet. I suppose if they'd included a bag or roll for them, once I had a place to store them I'd get rid of whatever they sent anyway, so who cares. An excellent value that immediately upped my workshop capabilities.

Great chisels for the money
I had been chopping mortises with myinexpensive bench chisels for a long time and always had problems with the chisel turning during the cut. I bent one of them trying to clear the waste. I bought Narex bench chisels and they worked a lot better, but would still sometimes twist in the cut. These mortise chisels virtually eliminated both the turning problem and the bending problem. They're fairly sharp as received, but I flattened the backs and sharpened them as I would any new chisel. They cut mortises with cleaner sides and there's no danger of bending one when you lever out the waste. These chisels stay sharp too, and leave a shiny surface on the end grain of each cut. I would recommend them to anyone wanting mortise chisels that are reasonably priced and do a great job.

They work well
The seemed to be sharp but I still ran them through the fine diamond stone and strop. I did two mortise's for a lid I am making and the performed flawlessly. I used 2 out of the 4 chisels. I didn't like the finish so I sanded them smooth and put my own stain on them . I used turpentine to take the finish off the metal before sharpening, this worked well however it also removes the print so be-careful if you want to keep the print(size marking) from being removed. I did not have any chipping a few mentioned. The sides are sharp as others have mentioned but if you are careful this should not be a problem , the sides can easily be lightly chamfered if you desire.

They work for me
Never used mortising chisels before. I have a project that I would need to mortise. Was not going to spend the money on a drill press mortising chisel ( not yet anyways) so I decided to try these out after reading all the previous reviews. Chisels, along with the Bora mallet arrived like the next day. Tried them out and could not believe how doable it was using these chisels. I do not know how to compare to more expensive chisels and what actually constitutes a superior chisel, but for me these chisels are awesome. Sharp as a tack. Have already completed two mortises and have several more to go. Next step is to learn how to re-sharpen though no issues to this point. Would prefer to buy USA but in this case do not mind helping out a good ally.

Narex does it again!
I've been slowly building my capabilities as a woodworker, and have been doing far more work with hand tools lately. When I first started working with hand tools, I used whatever set of chisels I could find cheaply at my local big box store. After seeing several small projects destroyed or requiring rework due to use of dull chisels or chisels that couldn't hold an edge (I work mainly with Oak and Walnut), I broke down and started looking for something better. This is my second Narex chisel set. I previously purchased the Narex socket chisel set, and was so impressed that I ordered this set for doing mortise and tusk/tenon work. The Narex chisels have similar quality to more expensive brands, and with some TLC, will probably last just as long.
