Starring Donald Sinden and Windsor Davies as two curmudgeonly antique dealers, Never the Twain rapidly became one of Thames Television's most popular comedies. Created by sitcom legend Johnnie Mortimer who, with Brian Cooke, created Father Dear Father, Man About the House and George and Mildred this classic comedy was a constant favourite with the viewers throughout its whopping ten year run. Showcasing guest appearances by Honor Blackman, Gabrielle Drake, Barbara Murray, Prunella Scales and Christopher Ellison, this set contains all eleven series and the 1989 Christmas special.Simon Peel and Oliver Smallbridge are not the easiest of neighbours. Simon is a blue blooded Oxbridge snob while Oliver is a former barrowboy with a chip on his shoulder the only thing they have in common is a willingness to stoop to endless lengths to do the other down. But when Simon's son and Oliver's daughter begin to show more than a passing interest in each other, what was a mutual cold war rapidly turns into something decidedly hotter!

Sitcom gold. Escapism in it's purest form.
This is one of the absolute finest sitcoms ever produced. It's based in the antiques world just like Lovejoy is. And like that show this show pulls the viewer in and never lets go until each episode is over. The world of antiques and one-upmanship between the two rival dealers makes for idea sitcom material. The scripts are intelligent in their comedy. Well written indeed. This is what makes the show so memorable and well loved after all these years.Only one annoying character to be found in this show. Mrs Sadler. She's Oliver Smallbridge's house cleaner. She is always breaking things. Characters like this are not even remotely funny. Her actions grate on the nerves. It's a shame she lasts until Series 7. The rash is introduced in Series 2 then leaves in Series 7. As it marries Banks the guy next door. He's Simon Peel's butler. It will be a glorious day when she leaves the show. I can't wait. It's a good thing the sitcom is pure class. Because even Mrs Sadler's behaviour can't dent it's awesomeness.I don't always laugh at sitcoms but I always enjoy them. I do insists most (but not all) of my sitcoms have the laughter in the background. Why? because it helps create the happy world that we're watching. If I find a one liner funny I'll laugh regardless of if it's got the audience going or not. This show has some truly comedic lines. This mostly evolves around the two main leads. Insulting each other or through outdoing each other as the show progresses. This show is perfect for a quick morale boost, or for a long boring day through poor weather, or if you are trying to recover from the cold. I like watching sitcoms late at night or really early in the morning. The atmosphere comes alive better. But a good sitcom can be watched any time of the day or night. Like this one.I have Series 1 and 2 from a long time back. There was supposed to be a complete set not long after I initially got that Series 1 and 2 set. 3 and 4 were out. Then suddenly the complete set option vanished until recently on here. When this complete set arrived I was so happy. I have loads of Network DVD's. Mostly sitcoms as it happens. I am fussy about sitcoms I buy. But I have a decent collection and it's always growing. One or two from Acorn Media and Simply Media and Fremantle. Most of them are Network releases though.Home James (all 4 series). Haggard (Keith Barron from Duty Free). Sweet Sixteen (Penelope Keith). I'd like to see these get a DVD release. Home James has a very thick 80's vibe to it. That is part of it's appeal. If Home James appears. It needs to be a complete set. I've given up on The Two of Us being released. Series 2 3 and 4. It's a shame. If it finally does appear I'll buy them as I have Series 1.

Still funny!
So well acted and still funny after all these years. Windsor Davies and Donald Sinden plays two antique dealers who live and work next-door to each other and mayhem and animosity ensues. We binge watched it and are planning on watching it again soon.
