Very High Quality Product - Maybe Not Good For Replacing an Older Valve Body, though ...
High quality, cast brass. Great design. My 3 star rating comes from the fact that I purchased this install kit to replace an 18 year old (vintage 1999) original Delta Series 17 shower valve body that was sufficiently seized up that I could not get the old valve cartridge out to replace it. After receiving this new "deluxe" (with supply shut-off screws) valve body, I realized that this one is wider than the original valve body that I was replacing - meaning the existing water supply lines were not widely spaced enough to connect to this one. Turns out that the standard (no water supply shut-off screws) valve body is narrower, and more closely matches the dimensions of the older body. There really was no way to know this from the specification - they appear to be the same, but they are not. Got the economy body via Prime, installed it, and all is good. Just FYI - use the standard (still very high quality - great instructions!) universal valve body kit if there is any doubt in your mind!

Almost perfect...
Purchased a couple of these to replace some old Temptrol valves we had in our house. I loved the idea of being able to isolate water from the cartridge directly from the valve as opposed to shutting the water off to your house. They are easy to use and get to as well, love this feature. The finish on this valve is superb. Threads were perfect and the finish inside all of the solder connections as well as where the cartridge is inserted were perfectly polished and made pipe soldering and cartridge installation a walk in the park. There were no burrs or anything on the outside of the valve either, I was very impressed with how smooth and clean everything was. 5 stars on the valve. The only reason I take a star away is because of the plastic mounting bracket. The first valve I received the bracket was cracked and broken in multiple spots that rendered it unusable. The box it came in was undamaged but they do not have any bubble wrap or anything inside of it to protect this part from getting damaged during shipping. It's not a deal breaker but compared to what this bracket is attached to it falls well short. A little more attention to detail with the bracket and this is a perfect product!I have read some people complaining/having problems with the cartridges in these valves and I honestly think it's either a water quality issue or it's just not being installed properly. You do have to be careful with the parts that have an o-ring seal in them and to make sure that they are properly lubricated before installation. We have had no issues whatsoever.Side note - One significant difference I did notice from my early 90's Temptrol valves to this one was the amount of time you have hot water for. I'm assuming this is because of the anti-scalding safety stuff but if someone could clarify that would be great. There is an adjust you can make on the cartridge that increases or decreases the total amount of hot water you can mix in. Even with it set at it's high limit it's still quite a bit different from the valves I replaced. Just some information I thought I'd put out there that I found to be interesting. Overall this is a great replacement and works well!

Flimsy mounting bracket
These valves are priced well and work well, but is it too much to ask for Delta to supply a beefier bracket so these can be put in with PEX that isn’t perfectly centered on the inlets and outlets? The mounting bracket bends very easily, making the valve out of square with the finished wall if there is any stress on the supply lines at all.

Local shutoffs are built into valve
I had a local plumber install these valves, and he was blown away that there are hot/cold water shut off valves built into the shower valve. He had never seen these valves before in 20+ years of being a master plumber. Otherwise the valves are identical to other Delta valves. They were installed easily, and built solidly, like all Delta brand plumbing components. Highly recommended for shower valve selections.

Works very well once installed.
I've installed two of these in my home as a "do it yourself" homeowner. Both we're to replace existing old valve systems in an older house. This is not an easy task, but if you have the soldering and renovation skills, plus time and patience, the result is worth it. Hire someone to do the work if you don't feel comfortable with it. Installation in new construction would be very simple and easy compared to a retrofit. I wanted these valve casings so that I could convert to Delta Tempassure fixtures and cartridges to solve water pressure and temperature controls. Mission accomplished.

Be careful, missing parts !
Unfortunately this unit was missing very important O-Rings that go into the stops and I didn't notice them until the valve body was installed. I was force to go to a local plumbing store to purchase new parts RP50366 and pay $14.55 to put the unit into operation. The missing O-Rings were not listed as a part so had to buy the complete new stop kit.

Better than Whats available Elsewhere
Had to do a bit of research to get this right. The big box stores don't sell the ones with the integral stops. With the stops you don't need separate valves on the supply lines. Except for the usual Amazon delivery problems, this Delta product is first class and should last a lifetime. American made quality. Should problems arise, the cartridge, which is sold with the trim kit or separately, can be replaced without removing any of the plumbing or tile. Good stuff.

High flow makes a difference! We've used this to run two shower heads from one valve. Personally used Sharkbite fittings to attach Pex from water supply to shower heads. Adds about an extra 1gallon for our pressure. Don't forget most shower heads are limited to either 2gpm or 2.5gpm - so a min. Of 5/6gpm is all you need...in theory

Malo
Y CARO
