Essentials of Supply Chain Management, Third Edition

I have been managing complex supply chains for the aerospace industry for at least a couple of decades and have installed collaborative supply chain applications at several airlines and OEMs. I find "Essentials of Supply Chain Management" a refreshing, easy, and informative read for the practitioner. Having recently gone through several text books written by academicians I find that even the best of them lacked the touch and the feel of real life supply chain issues. Most hands on managers however need to know the latest technologies and best business practices that might help them solve real life problems. Michael Hugo's book comes close to achieving that goal. The simulation model at [...] works hand in hand with the book. It allows paractioners the opportunity to put to test some of the concepts described in the book. The book and the simulation model can but does not have to be used concurrently to help managers formulate and test assumptions relevant to their own operation. With customer experience at the top of SCM manager's agenda these days, this book shines a light on a road not strictly dedicated to the theory of constraints with a single minded focus on maximizing throughput. The context of this book is excellent, really help me thoroughly understand the modern day supply chain management. Still, there are a few problems for the kindle edition. First is that the author sometimes refers other paragraph in the book by page, but in kindle I can only search by 'loc (ation)," which makes me unable to look for the referred context. Second is the graph/chart/picture display, the size is fixed, cannot be enlarged, and sometimes the characters in the graph/chart/picture are too small to read. Amazon should really fixed these technical problems before the release of kindle edition!

I am working on my MBA and will then be furthering my education in Supply Chain Management. I ordered this book to help give me a good overview of the industry prior to starting course work on the subject. It has been an excellent read and very informative. I found it to be an easy book to read, interesting, and very good at laying out the concepts associated with SCM. It was very beneficial to me and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to get into SCM or for someone that already has some experience, but would like to dive a little deeper in to it.

I wish I could take the knowledge in your book and implant into some of the people in my organization! The thrill of reading your book was that it reflected many of my own thoughts and experiences. It was an exciting couple weeks of reading for me and to know someone out there thinks like I do. I initially started reading the book to get an understanding of private sector logistics. What I found was many of my experiences in the military, good or bad, could be traced to how the organizations perceived their own logistics networks.

This book was recommended and helped my pass a Supply Chain class and was used when in my career as well. Great first step and well written into the life of the Supply Chain and how supply chains are all around us in our daily lives. From how we move freight to how we make our meals. Understanding the supply chain will allow us to avoid bottlenecks and streamline processes. Great essentials book.

Good beginner level book. I would have liked to use it with my Supply Chain class however, after reaching out to the author Michael Hugos I became quickly disinterested. Material in the book is OK however I would search for a different author and book if I was to buy a beginner book. Someone whom is willing to discuss, answer questions and validate.

This book starts out as a great introduction to the area of supply chain management. The second half of the boon however felt like a lot of hand-waving about RFID and real-time collaboration, along with some attempt to explain how to do project management and design of IT systems. This part didn't feel nearly as well written as the first. I'm also not sure it was really needed.

I purchased Mr. Hugo's book after reading other recommendation on a LinkedIn posting. As an executive search consultant I had the need to ramp up to supply chain management in hurry due to a pharmaceutical client's request.In a previous life (15 years ago) I was a Director of Ops for a Fortune 500 company. As such I was rusty and in a hurry to be educated. I found this book to be ideal to satisfy both objectives. I feel more confident and energized to speak with clients and candidates alike and have found new means to utilize supply chain in my own business.

Nice book with basic knowledge about Supply Chain Management. The structure is very well. It is worthwhile to spend time for if you are a newbie for the filed.However, I had received a book 2 weeks later as it should be. So I tried and read it online before it arrived.By the way, Finally, I got it.
