The Book of Bags: 30 Stylish Projects for Beautiful Sewn Bags Paperback – November 1, 2011

Looking through dozens of sewing books at the bookstore, this one stood out because it has pictures of each and every step: pictures, not drawings. Because I have a difficult time understanding patterns that are generally heavy on words and light on illustrations, I was encouraged that this book might make it possible for me to produce a quality product. I have just completed the messenger bag, and I know that without the pictures and well-written instructions, I could not have created this professional looking bag. As with all instructions, I learned a few lessons and might change a few things (in particular, the lining is too big for the bag). However, I don't mind learning things that will serve me on future projects. This book has really boosted my sewing confidence, which is a very valuable gift!

I have been sewing for 30 years and the last 3 have been making purses to supplement my fabric habit. I purchased this book mainly because of the purse on the front cover. Most of the bags in this book are just simple totes. Only 2 bags have zippers. Most of the bags use magnetic closures, a loop of fabric over a button, several close with ties of drawstring. There are some unusual items in the bags: plastic canvas is easy enough to find but the platic corset boning must be ordered on-line, I couldn;t find it in any fabric or craft store. If you have never used grommets, purse feet there are some good instructions. If you are an intermediate sewer look at the Bag Makers Bible, it has a lot more techiniques and styles of bags.

I love this book. It is the most creative book on the market. It not only tells you how to make the bag but has a world of suggestions as to embellishments etc. It introduces the "old" timer and the "first" timer to all the options for assembly, gadgets that complete a bag, and some plain old items laying around that will doll the bag up. (Like plastic water hose) After reading this little book your only limitation is your lack of imagination. This book will do it all. Buy it because I said to! Also comes with patterns and instructions.

Most patterns are not my style but directions seem clear.

I JUST GOT THIS BOOK. THE INSTRUCTIONS LOOK PRETTY EASY TO FOLLOW AND THE PICTURES ARE GREAT. I WANTED TO START TO MAKE A BAG, BUT THE BOOK DOES NOT LIST PLACES TO BUY THE THINGS NEEDED TO MAKE THE BAGS EG: PLASTIC TUBING, PLASTIC BONING, HANDBAG HANDLES ETC. I HAD A REALLY HARD TIME FINDING A LOT OF THE PRODUCTS LISTED AS NEEDED. WOULD HAVE HELPED A LOT TO HAVE WEBSITES TO BUY THESE PRODUCTS FROM.

Loved the book, easy to follow, even thou most of the bags seemed to be kind of repetitious, still a good book, had to go to a pringting company to have the pattern blown to the size specified, it still worked very well, I highly recommend

The designs of the bags look lovely but I have not attempted to make one. I bought the book for my granddaughter . I borrowed mine from the library.
