The Maker's Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse: Defend Your Base with Simple Circuits, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi

Just What I Was Looking For!
I'm a noob - and have been looking for more "practical" projects. No, I'm not expecting Zombies - but the ideas and projects can be applied to "real" situations. The Zombie idea just makes it more fun. Yes, it's a little dated and other boards and parts could be switched out for more advanced or cheaper one's - but you can still find plenty to give those pesky Zombies trouble. The author provides his email, and I plan on asking for any upgrade suggestions or recommendations when the time comes. Perhaps we'll get lucky and he'll write an updated version to help with all the undead?!? Good book.

A fun book with some interesting Arduino Experiments
I have been working in electronics for decades and with the Arduino since it was first introduced in the US. I bought this book because my kids are into the Walking Dead and I thought it would be a fun way to teach them some basic programming and electronics. The circuits are simple enough to build and would work if there ever was a Zombie apocalypse or a need to do some basic security around your house but it's meant to be lighthearted not the end all be all prepper manual. If you're new to Arduino this book is a lot more fun than some of the drier Arduino books out there.

Very fun with interesting projects
I enjoyed this book very much. It kept up the zombie apocalypse motif throughout but very quickly introduced projects like using a car alternator and bicycle to charge batteries. Other interesting projects included motion sensing, FM broadcasting, communications, solar power, etc. I appreciated the emphasis on use of project components that can be salvaged.

Entertaining and useful for teaching.
It’s funny but we are also using it for science project ideas for school

As a noob to playing with the Raspberry Pi and Arduino, I found this book and read the reviews. I based my decision to buy it on these reviews and I am not disappointed. This book is pretty awesome- it is tongue and cheek as far as setting up for the zombie apocalypse (which I enjoyed) but there is a ton of information in there about things you can do for times when there is no power available. The best parts of the book in my opinion are projects to take advantage of all the capabilities of the Pi and Arduino.

So-so- Okay
Well, not exactly what I was expecting, but the artwork is vaguely interesting. If you are big into making Arduino, etc gadgets, I would not spend the money on this. It's cute, but hardly informative.

Parody of the impending disaster is funny but not helpful.
I certainly believe in preparing for the Zombie Apocalypse but found that the book seemed to parody the sincere efforts of those of us trying to warn others of the impending disaster and trying to imagine how we are going to deal with flesh eating dead people attacking us. I would rather have Simon Monk on my side than not but believe that he could have put his understanding of electricity to better use by designing lethal traps to eliminate threats. I do realize that authoring a book detailing lethal methods is somewhat problematic, maybe this is the best he could do.

but there were a lot of good ideas in the book
The novelty wore off toward the end, but there were a lot of good ideas in the book. All in all, a fun read with some great experiments.

Worth a Read.
Simon Monk and his books need no introduction or recommendation from me. Other somewhat long-in-the-tooth electronics engineer/programmers like me will have come across many of Simon's books and articles. What is different about this book, however, is the sci-fi "back story" which provides a wide range of pegs on which to hang the various circuits and experiments. It is proving an interesting and entertaining read, as well as bringing me up to date with current technologies.and suppliers. For these reasons, I can recommend "Zombie Apocalypse" as a good bed-time read, as well as a useful source of ideas.

Good book.
Interesting survival stuff and electronics all integrated, well thought out. I do electronics as a hobby and like survival and archery too so 2 of my favorite hobbies in this book. Some useful tips - not just for a zombie outbreak but for any type of disaster.I have other Simon Monk books and all are useful electronics book's

Absolutly brilliant!
Absolutely brilliant! A simple guide delivered expertly with a good sense of humour. Perfect for wannabe makers such as myself.I own several of Simons books, all revolving around the Pi and Arduino. All of them are great, but this is my favourite. It's gentle good humour and we'll written guides are perfect.

Zombies are coming
My son loves it, and were trying to build some of the items
