This is high quality delicious rice that can be worthwhile splurge
Since entering semi-retirement, I have been spending more time cooking and buying lots of kitchen gadgets and exotic ingredients. So I started making onigiri, musubi, and oshizushi for co-workers while I've been advancing my culinary skills. As a result, I went down a bit of a culinary rabbit hole trying different Japanese grown short grain rices.I grew up eating Kohuko yellow or rose medium grain California rice and transitioned onto Nishiki medium grain rice when I moved out on my own because it was more readily available in communities without Asian grocery stores but had plenty of Wal-Mart Supercenters.Just so you know, if you're dipping your toe in the sushi, onigiri, or musubi making world, Nishiki is an excellent starting point. It is good quality, easy to work with, and costs about $1.20/pound on Amazon. It accepts liquid sushi seasoning when it's hot like a champ and returns to being pleasantly firm when cooled to room temperature for sushi making. As someone who spent an entire childhood eating rice EVERYDAY, I can tell right away that Ubara is definitely a step up from Nishiki, Kohuko Rose, or Botan. However, if you're planning to buy Ubara just for sushi, fried rice, or other cooking applications, save yourself some money and just stick to the California medium grain Calrose variants. You're wasting Ubara if you're just going to add a bunch of flavorants to cover up the natural flavor and sweetness of the rice.Ubara is a rice that you want to eat just as great quality rice. It is a rice that stands alone and shines. This is a rice that is best eaten comfortably warm as an accompaniment to other savory dishes-you'll miss the subtleties of the texture and flavor of the individual grains if you eat it boiling lava hot right out of the rice cooker. In fact this rice is delicious at room temperature For rice lovers, this is an excellent candidate for just munching on as you're just puttering around the kitchen. The sweetness shines through when the rice is room temperature.

Unenriched REAL Japanese sushi rice.
This is just the very best of the best of sushi rice (from Japan) and I've tried them all. It's just delicious and is very well packed for travel (it travels a long way!). I can't eatAmerican grown rice because it's required by our government (or FDA whatever I don't know)to be "enriched". Rice from Asia (Japan/India etc) does not have that requirement. It'swonderful rice. Now you don't have to travel to Japan to eat the rice that they do. :)

Top quality! All rice is not the same.
Very flavorful and firm texture! Again all rice is not created equal, you can taste the difference from each region and cultivar. I use for daily meals. Worth the price.

Not sure if I would buy it again.
It's rice. I've had stickier, tastier, and more fragrant rice than this. If you're just wanting bulk sticky rice, then this works.

Tried most top grade rice, this is the best
Best tasking rice ever. I use fuzzy logic cooker, and recommend this for consistent result. Rice has a creamy and nutty aroma. I have not found any garbage in the bags, rice is super clean. I have stopped looking for alternatives after trying this.

Finally, finally we found a good rice..!
As I am Japanese, I am super picky with rice. I tried pretty much all kinds of California rice, and yes some are good, but never good as rice you can get in Japan. This is very expensive rice but I wanted to give it a try. Goodness, it was super tasty. Finally, we found something very tasty. When you have good rice, you can eat without anything on the side. Kids love it so much that their breakfast is riceball, and lunch is rice and miso soup. It's so expensive that we don't want to eat all, but can't resist!
