William Onyeabor is a box set of five of the albums elusive Nigerian synth-funk pioneer William Onyeabor self-released between 1977 and 1985 - remastered and officially available for the first time. His music represents the epitome of the golden era of Nigerian funk, before he gave up a life in music to become a devout Christian. Luaka Bop released the critically acclaimed compilation WHO IS WILLIAM ONYEABOR'S in October of 2013, and has since seen the release of the documentary FANTASTIC MAN, which was fabricated around the myth of the musician, attempts to unearth the man behind the music, which is also now a full blown live show touring the world, paying tribute to the music of William Onyeabor featuring a supergroup of Damon Albarn, David Byrne, Kele Okereke from Bloc Party, Alexis Taylor from Hot Chip, the Lijadu Sisters, Money Mark, Pat Mahoney and Sinkane. to this day, William Onyeabor has not spoken about his music in one single interview.

Essential, long over-do release
The combined collection of this guy's recorded material reads like something from the outer limits. In that regard, he stands apart from every other act that was releasing music in the region at that time. Both of these box sets are essential for anyone interested in his work. He does the Afro Beat thing with his debut Crashes in Love and Atomic Bomb but he starts to get really interesting with Tomorrow and Great Lover by meshing all sorts of varrying styles with weird synths and off kilter production. Flash forward a few years to Everything You Sow and Onyeabor is making music more in league with Kraftwerk or Yellow Magic Orchestra. Fueled by a drum machine, an onslaught of synths and inspired vocals, this is some out there stuff! I've been listening to some beat up originals for years. They did a good job remastering these from whatever sourced vinyl they were working with. A long overdo and very welcome release.

Worthy of all the rave reviews.
This collection is simply amazing. The backstory is really captivating, but even without it, the music stands on its own and was ahead of its time by several decades. The attention to detail in the packaging and presentation is top notch. It is as good as everyone says it is. Worthy of all the rave reviews.

Artista. pressoché sconosciuto questo William Onyeabor...Devo ammettere che è stata una incredibile scoperta poterlo conoscere!Si parla di afro-beat/funk ipnotico con alcune puntate nel reggae. A dominare sono tastiere e synth...le immagini di alcuni lp presenti nel box parlano chiaro con Mr Onyeabor ritratto circondato dai suoi strumenti. Che dire....Correte a scoprirlo ed affrettatevi se siete amanti del vinile perché i box sono a tiratura limitata. Già preso anche il secondo box x completare la discografia!
