Great little snare!
I love this snare, it has a crisp sound and plays nicely without a lot of overtones. The heads that come on it are pretty good and I didn't have to do much tuning to get a tone i liked. One thing I really like is the mount that it comes with because it doesn't require it's own stand. I play a double bass kit and considered going to a single bass to close the gap between my hi-hats and snare...I mounted this snare to my hi-hat stand and it made the kit come to life like never before! I can easily move my leg below the snare to use the double bass. I like the sound of it enough that I use it as my main snare and use my 14" for accents. It would be a great snare to use in a fusion kit or on the road for smaller venues.

Pearl for when you want to play a real snare drum and sound like one.
I'm an American Hispanic, I play timbales, salsa music, but when looking for a snare down it had to be pearl, because all other companies make snare downs, but I remember when growing up here in New York City, I used to watch Don's Kirshner Rock Concert, and one thing I remember that when a rock band plays rock they usually only use a drummer, and I feel that the most important drum for them is their snare drum, in no way am I speaking bad about salsa, I have played it my whole life for 47 years, but I grew up listening to rock bands, salsa bands and every other type of bands, Pearl has been around for a very long time, plus Pearl Rocks, this is a real snare drum and I will use it in a salsa band. God Bless America and salsa and rock. Need I say that this is a great snare drum. ffsalsa/ff.

Snap, Crackle, Pop…
Ok- so it’s MIT (Taiwan) and less expensive. Got it as a Warehouse Deal- changed the batter head to a Remo Ambassador, adjusted snare tension. Cranked it tight, didn't even tune the resonant head and gives excellent response. Even rimshots ring well. Have it on a Yamaha ultra light aluminum snare stand that’s easy to pack. Pair it with an 8” PDP micro tom w/ an L rod clamp that attaches to a two legged PDP hi hat stand. Bass drum’s an older Crush 18” floor tom converted with a Pearl jungle kit. Can add a lightweight Gibraltar cymbal stand, 16” crash, clamp, arm, and 12” rack tom tuned lower to make a 4 piece kit.Beats hauling my 5 piece Yamaha Stage Custom around and sounds fuller than most portable size kits. Perfect for smaller gigs and can use an overhead and bass drum mics for bigger venues. I also use Meinl HCS bronze cymbals as needed for louder gigs. Heavier drum sticks also help produce more volume. It’s not what you use but how you use it.

Will give you an amazing sound for a wonderful price!
i used my friends drum set to play and what not, the old snare he had unfortunately got stolen with his truck...so at that time i thought ill get any snare i could afford no matter how crappy, searched online for a few days andsaw this snare within my price range, i bought it, it shipped pretty fast and was soon at my house, all i did wasa bit of adjusting with the stock heads and i got really amazing tones out of this snare, after wearing out the stockhead ive put Evans Hybrid Coated Snare Batter Drum Head, 14 Inchand a hazyy 300 snare side, and i got to tell ya one of most amazing sounds ive heard come out of snare, would definitely buy from Pearl again

Snare strainer does not have enough travel -- good drum held back by a cheap strainer.
The snare strainer does not have enough throw or travel. When the snares are adjusted properly for playing with the snares on, when I turn the strainer off the snares are still in contact with the resonant head. Even when I adjust the snares looser, they still contact the reso head when off. I have to loosen the snares so much that they are too loose before turning them off will move them from the reso head and allow the drum to sound correct. If the seller monitors this, please advise on a possible solution. Otherwise I will be returning this drum. It's too bad because it otherwise sounds good.UPDATE: I have returned the drum and ordered a different brand for a bit more money.

Low quality head
This drum compares with similar products 30% less costly. There is nothing wrong per se but for the price I was expecting a better drum head

Jungle kit is now complete!
This snare drum is excellent for a jungle kit or small drum set for small or outdoor gigs. My jungle kit includes a 14" floor tom converted to a bass drum, 8" rack tom mounted to a stand with the Pearl snare drum attached to the stand as well. The snare is well made and sounds great. I cannot wait to hear how it sounds outside in the park for gigs.
