I had to that to one of mine because it was defective from the factory but I knew the mounts were good but the strut was dead on the old ones
The strut itself is solid and strong but the screws that come with it are made of softer metal. If you don't have the proper angle you will strip them.BUT if you have the OEM screws from DODGE/CHRYSLER, You can simply unscrew the ball joint mount from the old strut and screw them onto the new unit. I had to that to one of mine because it was defective from the factory but I knew the mounts were good but the strut was dead on the old ones.Just a heads up in case you get in a bind where you may strip the screws on your new part by accident. As other folks said, mount the on the van first then the hatch. ALSO get a solid TORX T40 bit. I used one for a socket wrench.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000J0TF6G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1UPDATE: Bought in January and now at the end of March both struts have failed. The gas has leaked out slowly over 3 months and now are useless.....Not a quality product

Worse than useless.
Gas filled strut was pressurized excessively by the manufacturer. Install these struts, and your liftgate may not close. The struts they shipped me are RIGID and non-compressable. ALSO, Chrysler had the original fasteners gummed up with Loctite. Take heed; you may find that the process of unbolting these struts is liable to damage the mounts that they fasten to. Make yourself a prop-rod of wood or PVC, that fits into the recessed interior handle's well. Rod should run to the bumper cover, and measure it for a snug fit. An easy alternative to making the rod: use the telescoping aluminum window washing tool that Lowe's sells. Snap the fitting that's used for soaping onto its mandrel. This keeps the liftgate steady, even in a stiff breeze.

They work
I found it very annoying that the built in star hardware is extremely cheap compared to the stock units. The units I purchased took two different size star sockets and the fit of the star sockets was very poor causing the stars to have a tendency to tear up. the sockets fit the stock units perfect and allowed you to put the large amount of force need to loosen them. If I had to put that much pressure on the replacement hardware it would most likely strip out the star holes round. They work but im annoyed because two of the bolts are tight and two I had to stop short of tight because hardware wanted the strip out the star .

Fast installation, needs a Torx wrench.
These fit my wife's 2006 Caravan perfectly. As other reviews have stated, be sure to keep the washers from the original lift supports, this kit does not come with them. That being said, the original washers fit these supports perfectly. I can't remember for sure, but I think these needed a Torx driver, but I don't remember the size. I didn't have anybody handy to hold open the rear door, so I used a 2 x 4, which worked pretty well if not perfectly. It was a quick installation and my wife is extremely happy with the replacement supports!

Just as described Plus easy installation
Fits perfect which is always a good start. Easy to install that's always good. Had them installed for over 2 months now. Works perfect just like new. They where very stiff when I first installed them but after 20-30 uses they loosened up a like now they are just like it use to be when I bought the van. Holds hard and not overly hard to close the electric opener doesn't have any problem putting the door up or down. Would order this product again in a heartbeat. But hopefully these will last another 14 years .

Junk
Installed two sets of these both were junk one set work worked for about a month. The other did not worked out of the box.when removing them to send back for refund the stud of one of them broke off and had to be drilled and extracted. The other one the Torx bolt completely stripped out. I have never in 23 years of mechanic'ing (ASE cert.) stripped-out a Torx bolt. This are made out of very cheap metals (soft). Only reason I tried these over the factory is because it's our uber vehicle and the factory one's are just over $100 for the (4 studs and 2 supports) which is what is installed now.

Someone or something to hold the door up, Cause its heavy!!
First you'll need a torx driver to uninstall the old torx screws, then you'll have to have someone or something to hold up the door as you uninstall the old struts and install the new struts, I didn't have anyone to help me, So I used a 2x6 or a 2x8 board, it held it up snug. overrall I would say its a little bit of work to install these by yourself, but be sure whatever you do, do not cross thread or strip the new struts, you'll also need the old plastic washers off your old struts as the new ones didn't come with any, just take them off, and put the onto the new struts, Do one side at a time, also note some places are very tight to get into, I didn't realize the fittings on the new struts unscrewed until after I was installing them, anyway after all was said and done. I got them installed and it raises by itself now, before though the old struts was worn out, due to cold weather and heat I imagine. and was probably stock struts to begin with. just take your time, have patience and be careful and safe. I would highly recommend these to anyone. So far they are holding up great, I don't have to worry about headaches or the door falling on me now. There still a little tight to close, but after some breaking in the new struts it should smooth out over time. Good luck! everyone!

Don't work properly after about one month. Work even worse now, six months later.
Bought these December 2017. They were easy to install and initially I was happy with them. After about one month though, they quit lifting the tailgate in the winter temps. (30 degrees or so) Also now that spring has arrived and temps are in the 60, 70, 80's, they work fine lifting but when closing (our tailgate is automatic) it slams shut from about the last 12 inches or so. Not a soft close like they did when new last December. Very disappointed with these and would NOT recommend them.
