If you use this to heat up food at work, can your co-workers smell the food or is the scent contained until you open the oven?

There is no smell while heating up, but you can smell the food as usual once you open the container. However, no one has had any issues and one of my providers even got one for her desk. Between this and my little mini crockpot, the only time I eat out is if I did not have time to package or cook at all.

Can you plug this into the cigarette lighter in a car? or just an electrical outlet?

The Hotlogic Mini draws 45 watts and plugs into 120V AC. To use it in your car, you would need an inverter that plugs into the cigarette lighter. On Amazon, a 75 watt inverter costs about $16 and in addition to an AC plug, most of them allow you to plug in USB to charge your cell phone etc. You would plug the inverter into your cigarette lighter and then plug the HotLogic Mini into the inverter. Since the inverter is rated at about twice the power requirement for the device, no problem.

The plate itself is made in the USA. "Made in the USA" is molded on the bottom of the plate. The soft case is made in China-per the cloth tag on the case.

Does anyone have experience with taking through airport security? my husband works at atl and is not sure it will get through the security checkpoint.

It's fine. In a flight attendant(based in ATL) but anyone could bring this through security. I love my! Perfect for hotel rooms so I'm sure your husband will love using it.
