Nails are tough
The nails were the toughest to put in which may be an indication that one they are in the may not come out. I would buy it again, however, because it does the job well...so far.

Horrible nails. Will ruin wood or tile floors
I think this is a great product for its value. My only issue would be the nails that came with this product (see pictures for the issues with the included nails below).>>I used my own smaller sized screws that came with a picture hanging kit.--Pros:-It protects the shoe heel.--Cons:-The nails are so long in length that they don’t go into the shoe.-The nails are not sharp and require a lot of effort to make flush with the base of the heel.-Nails stick out of the heel and will damage a wood or tile floor.-There is a high change that the nail could go all the way up into heels (if heels are small).-After 3 days worth of normal to below normal use... meaning walking from the parking lot to inside, I realized that the rubber degrades semi fast.

They do need glue
I’ll still give it 5 stars even though they do t come with adhesive on the back of them. I use a strong adhesive glue and nailed them also. I read somewhere here that the nails didn’t go in cause of the smaller hole outline, It worked for me, I just used a narrow tap on of the nail that didn’t go all the way. I guess I’m a little more creative(common sense). And they have lasted. When one pair wears down, I’ll repeat the process.

They are okay
The two issues I have with this item I knew ahead of purchasing because other people mentioned it in their reviews. It was something I felt I would deal with because I needed them. There isn't any adhesive on the heel plates so it is a bit difficult to get it in place and to stay in place while hammering in the nails. I put Gorilla Glue on them and then nailed them in.The nails are not appropriate for the item. I think they are carpet tacks. The head of the nail is too large to fit into the recess space provided on the heel plates. Because the nail head is higher than the surface of the heel plate you can hear the metal nails hit the floor when on tile, ceramic or wood with each step. It's like wearing tap shoes :). Not a concern with ceramic floors but on wood or tile floors I am concerned they could definitely scratch the floor.

Nails
Hoping these heel plates are better than (or at least as good as) the ones in at the grocery store. Confirming other comments, the nails provided are similar to carpet tacks - just like the ones you get with heel plates in stores. Shoemaker installed heel plates seem to use ridged nails similar to 1" panel board nails. Heel plates probably add 1/8" to heel thickness. 1" nails worked fine with Dockers Dress Shoes. You'll know pretty quickly if these nails are too long :-). As for another comment about holding things in place, drive all 4 nails into the heel plate until they protrude about 1/16" out the other side before you put the plate on the heel to hold things in place so you can position the plate with one hand and drive the nails with the other hand. Good luck.

Now - I can repair my own shoes When needed
Bought these heel taps after getting tired of going to a shoe repair store -- leaving my shoes for days at a time -- then paying for a repair that I could easily do myself. Also -- to be fair to the shoe repair person -- given the type of rubber sole that I have on my shoes, the heel taps would come out often. Decided to buy heel taps for myself. They were easy to apply. A hammer is all you need. So far they have worked just fine. The heel taps have stayed intact -- protecting my shoe toes and heel. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Sneak attack quality!
I have to say that I'm glad I spent some time with this product beyond my initial judgement. I installed these to both my work shoes thinking that I'd be replacing them in a week because the nail heads were misshapen and didn't recess into the counterbores of the taps. I'll shut my mouth. It's been a month and the initial installs on both pairs are going strong. They are taking a beating from asphalt and concrete perpetually. I love that I can transition to carpet and they aren't ripped off of my shoes like a certain other common brand that costs x3 times as much.

Good product with one exception
Due to nerve damage in his right foot, my son wears away the outside of his heels before the shoes are damaged . These heel taps helps to extend the life of the shoes because of his walking on his heel and dragging his foot . Good product with one exception , you have to use a super glue with the tacks because the tacks will back out of the taps . You can also use small screws instead of the tacks which is even better , that's why I am giving it a four star salute because the tacks won't hold the taps without extra help .
