First review May 2013After reading the claims and reviewing the actual studies, I decided to try these to see if it improves my asthma and frequency of infections as claimed.Other reviewers commented on the smell and they are 100% correct! Do NOT smell the contents of the bottle or you'll likely throw them away. (LOL! Trying to maintain acceptable language here)-- It smells like concentrated colon gas after eating a can of beans. Understand? But us old-timers recall old medicines usually tasted nasty and learned how to deal with it. Bite the pill between you teeth, then quickly down it with water. Avoid holding it in your mouth. Hey, it's nowhere nearly as bad as 1950-60's penicillin or the spoonfuls of code liver oil... BLAH!Update May 2014An update after using this product for a year and I'm happy to report I am doing MUCH better! Absolutely NO - ZERO upper respiratory tract infections this year and this has NEVER happened to me!!! Even my doctor was impressed. I am not one who eats supplements without doing my homework- checking the valid studies. This one passes the test.Before starting this I did a lot of research, reading studies by pulmonologists. According to most, all patients with COPD should be on NAC, as it's benefits have been proven. A great resource is nih.gov... just type in the search line: NAC + COPD. They tested subjects with 600mg, then 1200mg. The best results were found in the group taking the higher dose. This brand is 1000mg, which for me is close enough.BTW, regarding its awful smell- it helps to leave the lid off the bottle for a while.I should also mention these are huge horse pills. Some may need to break them in half with a pill cutter, as they are not scored.

I'm getting near 30 and my liver just isn't what it used to be. I've noticed lately that I feel abnormally intoxicated after just one beer, and painfully hungover all the next day even after a fairly tame night. So, I decided to start taking supplements to improve my liver function, and it's made an immediate and profound difference. I feel like my body is normal again, processing alcohol as it should. This N-Acetyl Cysteine is easy to take (even though it's a somewhat big pill) and the tablets are almost completely tasteless and odorless, which is good, because the smell of some vitamins can be vile.The other supplements I've been taking are Garlic Extract and Milk Thistle. I also take a variety of antioxidants, the type of stuff you'd get from any good multivitamin. Works like a charm - I don't feel like I'm wasted after just a few drinks and I have zero hangover symptoms after moderate drinking, like 2 beers + 2 drams of whisky through 4 hours, for example.

Arrived timely

I purchased this to help with hearing loss and ringing ears. I couldn't get a clear answer as to whether or not NAC may aid in recovering lost hearing, but I decided to give it a try. My ears still ring but I have noticed a decrease in the sound however no recovery of lost hearing. However I noticed a secondary benefit of NAC and that is a reduction in phlegm. For years I have always had too much mucus and have to take pseudoephedrine regularly. I have been able to quarter the amount of pseudoephedrine I need and this is a clear and tangible benefit.I removed one star because the pills are large and smell pretty awful. Some reviewers have noted more recent batches smell better. I will update my review if a new batch addresses that. However I don't see why they can't make these pills into gel caps to ease swallowing. Overall I am satisified. I take two a day.
