Metalsmith Society’s Guide to Jewelry Making: Tips, Techniques & Tutorials For Soldering Silver, Stonesetting & Beyond Review: My wife is really loving this book... and learning a lot - A few months ago my wife took up jewelry making at my suggestion - she loves her pieces she's bought over the years and I started to feel like it was something she'd find joy in making herself. I was right: this has become a great passion and she spends a good deal of time every week reading, researching, and improving her skill set. She found Metalsmith Society’s Guide to Jewelry Making: Tips, Techniques & Tutorials... online having heard of the author, Corkie Bolton, through her research. So apparently Ms. Bolton is a successful jewelry designer and crafter and from what my wife was finding online, also teacher. She had to get the book, so we grabbed it and my wife is thrilled. She spends her free time reading, learning, reviewing sections, and applying things while she's in class. The book and class have given her enough confidence and knowledge that she's now buying her own tools for home and beginning to practice here. This weekend she attended her first gem show and felt things she has learned from both her instructor and Ms. Bolton helped her feel confident enough to go - and buy a number of stones. I tried to give you a flavor of the book via the photos without giving away the farm. I think what I take away from spending my own time going through, is how well Ms. Bolton is at 1. images, 2. instructions, and 3. explanations that combine to help one understand individual concepts. Certainly this coupled with the things my wife is learning in class is stronger than the book on it's own. Yet my wife feels things she has not yet been exposed to in class she would feel comfortable trying at home - I think that speaks to the book being well written. Not only does Ms. Bolton provide well thought out and provided steps and explanations for creating in various methods, but pay attention to the Resources section - it is a good one. In addition to this book, Metalsmith Society’s Guide to Jewelry Making: Tips, Techniques & Tutorials..., Ms. Bolton operates a website and the Metalsmith Society online. There you'll find even more resources and items for purchase that support what she writes about and how she helps - what I think are - beginner to intermediate metalsmiths in learning and expanding their knowledge and craft. In the end, this book, Metalsmith Society’s Guide to Jewelry Making: Tips, Techniques & Tutorials... is a great support and teaching tool for my wife and she's very pleased with having it. We highly recommend it. Review: Must have for newbie metalsmiths!! - I bought this book as soon as I signed up for my first silversmithing class. It helped me feel prepared walking into my class, and since the teacher turned out to be a better jeweler than an instructor, it helped me to look back and find explanations for what we were doing and why or why not in some cases. There’s no way I would be without it! Written in an easy to understand and follow format, with lots of pictures and references to her IG page if you have more questions. I found my first metalsmithing community as a result of Corkie’s Guide to Metalsmithing and Jewelry Making book. Thanks, Corkie!!

Essential to Your Metalsmith Journey
I’ve had the book since it was released, and this is STILL the book I reach for again and again in my library. Detailed and clear pictures of each tool and how they are used and why you need them. The tips throughout are helpful. I also really appreciate the projects. Each one has a detailed materials and tools list plus tips. I’m such a fan of this book and believe it is essential for learning to metalsmith, so I bought copies for my local library!

Fantastic Refresher Course!!!
I have been with Metalsmith Society since the beginning and I cannot express enough appreciation for what Corkie has done for the online jewelry community. I took some classes when I became curious about jewelry making and fell in love. I studied, freelance, for a few years then set myself up with a studio and whatever I didn't know I found out and taught myself (some of that knowledge came from MS). Now in business and always looking to learn more and improve my skills, I bought Corkie's book as much out of loyalty and support than anything else. At lunchtime at my studio I read a chapter of the book and what I discovered was a fantastic refresher course and simplified (and correct?) ways of doing things that I had complicated by teaching myself. I learned some new things, learned new ways of doing things and now keep the book handy for quick reference. Corkie has a breezy and personal style of writing and you feel as if you are learning from a friend. Beginners on up - this is one of the best jewelry books in my library!

THE BEST.
I bought this book the day after I took my first silversmith class and fell in love with metalsmithing. This book is the BEST. I have read this book cover to cover several times, have bookmarked pages, and keep it next to my bench. In a few months, I've done almost all of projects included and they have been SO inspiring and helpful in developing my personal style when it comes to making jewelry. If you're a beginner, BUY THIS BOOK. Corkie has done such an amazing job consolidating all of her knowledge in easy-to-understand steps, breaks down tools and their uses, and sprinkles in legit gems of tips throughout the book. I'm so glad I bought this book and highly, highly recommend it to anyone looking to explore metalsmithing! Thank you for your tips and amazing community, Corkie!

Very informative and detailed procedures. But it is, in fact, as the title indicates, more appropriate for beginners
