I’ve tried a few stud finders before and this one is much better and far more accurate. It detects the full width of the stud rather than just the edges, which makes it much easier to see exactly where to drill. Very simple to use with no complicated calibration, just place it on the wall and move it across. The display lights up clearly when a stud is detected. Overall a very reliable tool and a big upgrade over cheaper stud sensors.

Tested sensor on a section of internal wall and got definite joist and centerline all good. Bedroom wall for TV bracket mounting kept showing all sensors on for most of the area. Drilled a test hole and found, plasterboard fixed to blockwork with dot and dab, modern way of fixing. So sensor seemed to work ok in some areas, but other areas still needed a test hole drilling.

This stud finder is a big step up from a single "wand" type in terms of visualising what's behind plasterboard. No calibration phase; just pick up and use. I found it effective for finding studwork and even the "dots and dabs" used for securing plasterboard against a solid wall. The only time I had trouble was when I didn't believe what it was showing me! There are some surfaces where accuracy will not be good. The instructions make this clear. Some reviewers found the plastic case flimsy, but it's fine - I'll just not be throwing it into a bag of heavy tools. An easy 5* rating.

See attached video. I tested this product in a new build with 12.5mm plasterboard with a few mm of skim. I knew where the live wires and studs were. Some studs where metal frame and some 4x2 timber. As a stud finder it worked well, showing the width and edges of the stud with reasonable accuracy - about 3-5mm out at most. This made it easy to determine the centre of the stud. Both timber and metal worked well. Sometimes you get a false signal briefly but just pause and they usually go away then you can move the unit again. My unit did not detect live electric wires however. I tested where I knew there was mains in 2.5mm and 6mm twin and Earth runs. The electricity LEDs never lit up unfortunately despite there being 240V AC present. I did note it was able to detect electricity in open air, i.e. if I placed the unit near a cable without plasterboard between so it seems it was not sensitive enough. There are no calibration controls so this is a problem if you need this function and a safety concern, at least with my unit.

Absolutely the best bit of kit I’ve bought in the last 12 months. The ability to find the center of a stud is a game changer for me. I love how it lights up green when the center is found, goes that extra bit of confidence. The electrical sensor works great too, but hard to know where exactly the electrical wire is, the sensor just lights up a yellow led shaped like lightning. I am presuming it’s the center of the device it is alerting for. Either way, it’s the best sensor I’ve owned. A++

Great product, perfect for the job in hand

Using this is a whole new ball game in detecting studs; it's just so much easier than the traditional single-sensor stud detection machines. Electricity wire detection is not quite so accurate; it'll detect the current but trying to pinpoint its exact location is extremely hard. However, you know to avoid the area! The only real downside with unit is not related to its operation but its price. At £38 is very expensive compared to other stud detectors, however as mentioned, it does have a rather unique operation so maybe that' explains the high price.

I have tried many Baten finders, most are unreliable, the rest are just gimmicks, that just don't work. Cheap or expensive it's very hard to find one that's "The real deal" I needed one for a job, so I thought I would try this. The Franklin Industries ProSensor X990. Well, I must say, I was very impressed. Every reading I tried was bang on. No false readings just accurate readings every time. It also finds power cables behind plaster boards and 2 ⚡ symbols illuminate yellow when found. One thing I thought was cool is, when the red leads find a Baten, it's center led turns green to indicate center of Baten. And......... it's very very accurate. Great product, for a reasonable price. They do have higher priced models but, this was fine for what I needed. Highly recommended.

Why is Franklin products so hard to get a hold of in Europe? .. this device is everything I wanted for a stud finder

Very happy with my purchase. It's the perfect tool for a part time DIY enthusiast. It's easy to use, and I really like the green light feature that lets you know when you're in the center of a stud. The product itself feels well made and of good quality.

This stud finder is awesome. 100% better than the ones available in Home Depot, Rona or Lowe's. Detects full width of stud, electrical wires, and limited false positives. 5 star!
