Solid and Sturdy
The first skateboard that got shipped to us was unfortunately missing some parts. So I had to wait to get a replacement, thankfully it didn't take long. The board itself is extremely strong and very sturdy. I weigh 200 pounds and it didn't give too much flex, it gave just the right amount of flex that one would expect. There is an immense amount of detail work with this including the carvings and etchings and the grain as well as the finish on it as well. It is a really awesome bamboo surf skateboard! And it is coming in very handy to fine-tune my surf training. The wheels are super high-quality and the chucks are solid and secure. Is a great training and coaching tool for anybody learning to surf, or anybody that just wants to skate on a really cool skateboard.

Awesome product
Finally received my Roots surfskate. Overall took about a week to deliver.Everything came packaged separately. The deck was protected with a layer of plastic which is a nice touch. Trucks and wheels packed separately protected with bubblewrap. All the hardware came in a good ziplock bag (not the cheap single layer plastic one) which can be used to store spare parts! BIG UPS!This is my second roots board. Got my first one in Bali. Overall I’m super happy with the quality and performance is obviously great!Amazing tool to improve your surfing and have fun!

One of the best kept secrets
Surfskating is not the same as longboarding. It's definitely tiring to ride these for much distance. So if you're commuting to work a few miles you'll probably not want this. They basically feel like a tricycle, with one wheel in the front and 2 in the back. The front feels really unstable, but that also makes it great for making deep slashy carves. If you want to replicate surfing or some approximation and want to do tight but flowy carves, this might be for you.If you watch youtube reviews on smooth*, you'll know they're near the top of the tier lists for surf trainers. From my understanding, smooth* licenses their trucks so maybe they don't quite have a monopoly on them. The trucks on the roots completes are basically smooth*. And smooth* are a lot more expensive. The differences then come down to what you get other than the trucks - deck, wheels, bearings, etc. The trucks are very similar to yow trucks in feel, but with a less strong return to center. This means over time (during the same session) it'll probably be more tiring to ride because you have to expend energy to return to center. However, if you're not going long distances then it won't matter too much. I am not an expert by any means, but this and the yow feel really similar otherwise. This deck is a lighter bamboo composition and the weight is honestly pretty good compared to the surfskating competition. I like this better than my yow deck, my triton deck, and my waterborne carbon deck. My yow deck especially is so hard and dense, it feels like I'm skating on a flat rock almost. That said, this is a distant second behind my soulboardiy (which seems to be the current gold standard). I don't have a full-fledged carver deck but I think this might be in between a carver deck and triton in terms of surfskating properties. This is very flat, and the grip is reminiscent of those large sugar granules on the danish cookies in the tins that eventually store sewing supplies. Because it's flat, I have to readjust my feet fairly often from slowly sliding away from where I want to be. More concave would be nice to lock feet in place, and the tail would be better if it were wider and not split into a fish tail. Lots of videos on youtube about why that is.The bag it comes with is a nice touch, but I'll probably never use it. Overall I was pleasantly surprised, because to get a complete with these kinds of trucks from smooth* will run quite a bit more than what these cost. Just getting access to these trucks is pretty nice, and the deck can be repurposed in some of my other setups, like replacing the yow deck i dislike so much. Be warned you have to assemble everything yourself though, so make sure you have a skate tool.Overall, this is a pretty good purchase. There aren't a lot of videos specifically about this complete, but you can get an idea by watching smooth* videos. Do your research, especially if you're budget limited and you can only get one. If you can get many of them, I think this is a great choice to flesh out your quiver. If you can swing it, just get it. 5 stars.

Nice Board to learn Surf Skating
The media could not be loaded. PROS+Attractive Design+Good Quality Parts. The front truck is similar to a Carver C7 truck.+Bonus Carrying Bag & included T-toolCONS-Additional instructions on fine tuning the front truck would be helpful for most beginners. Besides tightening the bushings, I really needed to crank down on the front spring to keep the board from pivoting too much.-Given the fact that you can't go much larger than the stock wheels without wheel bite, this board cannot handle pebbles or road cracks too well. It's really suited more for ultra-smooth surfaces.NEUTRAL~Some assembly is required. They direct you to a YouTube video made by Roots for help on this. Most people who have put together a skateboard should have no problem with this.SUMMARYFirst off, I have to say that surf skating is HARD! I've skated regular cruiser decks & longboards my entire life and I definitely had a hard time so far with surfskating. The attached video shows my first time out and it's definitely nothing to write home about considering how much better I am on a regular non-surfskate board. Despite how difficult surkskating is in general, I think this Roots board is great overall. If I can eventually get a hang of this, I like the fact that you can essentially pump indefinitely without needing to take your foot off the board to push.
