Classic Rock Instrumental Solos: Alto Sax, Book & Online Audio/Software (Pop Instrumental Solo Series)

Very impressed with this purchase... nice size, quality printing, and the CD has both demo tracks and back-up tracks for each piece. I am a very new sax player (less than a month, but finally doing it at 67 years old!) so I can't comment on the actual playing, but I have no reason to doubt it will be anything but great. One book I got seemed to have reduced versions of pieces, but for example, in this book Roundabout by Yes is 3 full pages with 25 staffs.

As a restarter on the sax what I need is more hours on the horn. And this book/cd is great motivation for that. The sax on the demo tracks seems to be intentionally without a lot of embellishments or articulations so they are easy to follow for the first few play-throughs on training wheels. The transcriptions seem very accurate. And the CD backing tracks are very musical and soon you'll want to play with the solo tracks instead of the demo tracks.

Good for the active sax player

This collection is great for my older (18 year old) Sax student who is just finished the first level book. He wants to play rock music that he is familiar with but doesn't have the skills yet for harder music. This has sparked his interest and he is practicing more.

Harder to follow than believed for a beginner sax player
