General Finishes Oil Base Gel Stain, 1/2 Pint, Ash Gray

I have used General Finishes in the past and love how well it goes on. No sanding furniture, or cabinets before applying. However I purchased the “Ash Gray” hoping it would be the color that’s on the can. It’s definitely not even close. It’s solid Gray. So if you are looking for a Gray stain this is perfect. But know it’s not going to look like the picture on the can. I still chose to rate it 5 stars. Like I said it’s a great product, very easy to use.

The ash gray was just what I was looking for. Didn't see it in other brands at local stores. The gel wiped on very easily onto both fresh pine and oak. I did re-stain a piece that came stained from big box store.. it was a little more difficult to get an even coat, but a little practice and it worked fine. Covered everything with GF arm-r-seal and am very happy with the result.

I have used General Finishes gel stains on several products and have been pleased with the application and durability. Highly recommend!

This product is easy to use, doesn’t drip however the ash gray does show up gray vs the brownish color that is shown on the label and in the examples via photos

I bought the ash gray to redo a table top. The color was just straight gray. I expected this to be an actual ashy gray but instead it looked no different than the regular gray. I tried wiping, sanding, letting it dry, extra coats, thin coats, etc. It still looked terrible and not all the color as advertised. I would probably use this if I was using a darker color but not the ash gray or lighter colors.
