History: The Definitive Visual Guide (DK Definitive Visual Encyclopedias)

I was never very interested in the subject of History in school. As an adult, however, I have grown to find it more interesting and also necessary for understanding life and how we’ve gotten to the present moment. I got this book to use as a history refresher and to fill in the gaps that were not covered in school. It’s a pretty thick book and covers what seems like a little of everything. I love this and I’m excited to re-educate myself. :)

This large book is wonderful for those who like exploring history more deeply. The illustrations are beautiful and helpful in combination with the text. My history-loving friend will definitely enjoy the articles and will browse through the information regularly. He will also appreciate that the book is from the Smithsonian.

Excellent book for illustrations, content and organization. Very robust and informative. Would have kept it, if it hadn’t arrived like this.

I have started reading The Penguin History of the World, but was finding it an incredibly dense read. For me that book just dives into a myriad of information with no outline to help provide context. Was looking for something to complement this. I love the content of the DK History book. For me it is thoughtfully laid out including outlines and timelines. I'm now reading the sections here first, then going to the Penguin book for additional details. I was relieved when the book arrived in tact and in good condition based on some of the horror story reviews I read. That said, the book cover and its binding do not appear to be sturdy by any means and I'm treating it with kid gloves (though the pages themselves seem to be good quality). If it were sturdier I would have given it 5 stars. If it starts falling apart on me, take it down to 3 stars.

If you're looking for a book with a broken binding, this is the book for you. And if you order it a second time, with the hope that the second book will not be defective, you will get another book with a broken binding. AGAIN!

The book's cover was damaged

I picked up a copy of this to use for art reference in my illustrations and its an excellent source of images. I've used it frequently, and I do find myself also reading it from time to time as I come across interesting areas. Recommended for sure.

Excellent book for general knowledge, around 620 pages. Lots of illustrations and maps. Came in great condition and arrived on time. It's great for studying history and different learn simultaneous situations from around the world. It's and easy read and makes the usual "boring" history from school to ne actually interesting.

Really nice book, bought for a gift. The book is in date order that events happened in, and runs through to the modern day, give a detailed summary of key events. Really beneficial for a history loving teen.
