Clever but same old, same old
I like the way Mo writes. And the unique way he divides the book up and compares the way we live and think to our brains, and the focus on neuroplasticity is great. The exercises are fun (though hard if occasionally you don't have a group of mates) and it is a good workbook. And the heartfelt way he includes his son regarding change is certainly empowering and thought provoking, as I do believe in the metaphysical (up to a point).But...apart from losing his son, his own depression is about as far away as many of us with true mental health problems would face. He basically had too much; too much work, too much love even and didn't appreciate it. Hey, wish that was me! His life sounded bliss (to me). I noticed how he didn't mention exactly why his marriage didn't work out...(that would have been interesting).Again, this is a rehash of old stuff, put together in a cleverly constructed book that focuses on the brain as a computer. Bet you already know that meditation and relaxation works, right? Bet you already know the toxicity of social media and the news?Yes, thought so.I skimmed this book. And I always think the value of a good book is what you remember from it once read. For me, nothing. Just the same old, same old (did skim it though). But this one: 'say something positive or say nothing at all' is amusing (not to mention the fact that I have just broken that!). That is called repression and is not a good thing. Change also happens in the world when we do say something negative in order for something positive to occur.I am not sure if Mo is a little delusional when it comes to his son's influence (and just wanting to believe he is guiding his life) or spiritual. Thank goodness he didn't say he was channeling him. At the end of the day, it is a little ironic that he is choosing to believe those thoughts when he questions the readers cognitions.I am hoping there are better books out there, ones that come from people who really have been through immense trauma and difficulties and have changed their lives. Mo has had it all and lived a much easier life than many and from this perspective, it is a whole lot easier to be happy (and there are just too many books written by people like that, that are so hard to take seriously).

Mo God-at
Just wow. The absolute complete no non nonsense psychology/ spiritual gem. Got myself through some self help books in my years but this one, once taken in, is the best simplistic consistent result approach. Systematically cutting off what is of no worth at the start of the book, how to deal with consistent thoughts and emotions in the middle and the way Mo has devised it all to come together simplistically at the end, there's nothing better out here. I have read some great self help work as I've said, but this puts all the best work together in a way that is actually better than the mindfulness and psychology professors books I've read.
