Amazing quality DVR
I bought this voice recorder for my elderly family member who is still using an old school tape recorder for his meetings. I usually don't buy anything that is made in China with an unknown brand name on it and was very reluctant to buying anything cheaper than £100 but considering a generous Amazon return policy I've decided to go for Evistr and I'm very well impressed.BUILD:- the build quality is superb and the product doesn't feel at all cheap.- the whole unit is made of well cut metal parts, feels very solid and hence quite heavy. The shell is painted gloss white which makes the recorder look top shelf product- It's 10cm high by 4.5cm wide (measured where the microphones are) and 12mm thick- The colour screen is crisp and clear with no blurs etc.ACCESSORIES- earphones which are rather cheap but that's not a deal breaker considering most of people have their own earphones already- external microphone which I haven't tried yet- USB charging cable- Telephone adapter for recording your telephone conversations - haven't tried that either- manual in few languages including English, it's written by non-English person but it's understandable. It doesn't explain all the features of the recorder thoughINPUTS/OUTPUTS:- External Microphone/ Line In- Earphones OutBUTTONS:- Input Source: Built-in microphone / telephone adapter (supplied) / External Microphone or Line In- Volume- Erase button- Music / DVR - to switch between Voice Recorder and MP3 Player mode- Hold: to lock the unit- A/B Repeat- Menu, Play/Pause, Stop, Rewind, Fast Forward and RecordRECORDING:- considering how small this device is the recording quality is superb and the built-in microphones seem very sensitive, picking up quite a lot without introducing too much white noise.- with all memory erased the storage time wise shows 97hrs and 38mins when set to MP3 192K bitrate recording quality- there is a slight delay from when you press record to when it actually starts but it's only couple of secondsPLAYBACK:- it has a 31 levels volume control to play your recordings- the built-in speaker is a good quality- it has an option of using external earphones to listen to your recordings- it also lets you upload your own music so you can use the device as a MP3 PlayerNote: It comes with built-in 8GB and there is no slot to add external memoryMENU:Record Settings:- Record Format: MP3 or WAV- Record Bitrate: 32, 64, 128 or 192kbps- Recording mode: Normal, Track on, Voice Activated (with 5 levels of sensitivity)- Automatic Gain Control: 1 to 16System Settings:- Sleep timer: Off, 0 to 99 minutes- Backlight timer: 10, 20, 30secs or Always On- Date and Time with option to choose format- Language: quite a few including English, German, Italian, French, Polish, Spanish- Format Device- Storage Information- Factory resetPlay Settings:- Play mode: Shuffle or Repeat (repeat 1 up to 10 times or interval)- Equalizer: Rock, Funk, HipHop, Jazz, Classical, Techno or Custom- Variable Speed Rate: 1 to 8Recording Scene:- Normal, Interview, Meeting, Outdoor, Bar, Concert, Meeting HallNoise Reduction: Off, Low, Middle, HighExplorer: to browse your music and/or voice recordingsTools:- Calendar- Stopwatch- Alarm: On/Off, Set time, Cycle (Once, Daily, Working Day), Alarm Music or Built-in Ring, Alarm Volume- Auto record: On/Off, Start Time, Cycle (Once, Daily, Working Day)OPERATION:- in order to understand how to operate the unit you will need to use the manual as some of the options are not that obvious at first e.g. when navigating through the menu REW and FF buttons operate as left/right or up/down, MENU is Enter or Confirm, STOP is Back or Cancel and PLAY/PAUSE is to switch the unit on or off (hold for 3 seconds), REC just starts recording

A solid constructed device that does a great job as a dictaphone for meetings
A solidly constructed device that does a great job as a dictaphone for meetings, interviews and the like. I purchased it off the cuff when I noticed the low cost for spec. I thought it may be useful for recording audio from my mobile scanner, but found it unusually counter-intuitive whilst setting it up for such a task. First of all I needed to set up the VOX sensitivity of the device so that it would acknowledge the majority of signals received. This required maximum setting (5) and still it missed the slightly softer audio voices. Experimentation with the automatic gain control (agc) settings improved detection of those, but I was constantly plagued with 'unsupported media file' messages' during the process? How could they be unsupported? the device itself was created them! THIS! after finding time to pursue the problem is an obvious software fault. PROOF? owners of this device, set it to record, keep silent for a short period, then.stop recording, try to playback, you will get the aforementioned message. This device appears to be unsuitable for my specific needs but I've since discovered there's another device that EVISTR sells, that does allow play through so I might have to go for that one, I'd still like to further investigate the uses of this one, so hopefully they will make a software upgrade to resolve the issue I have discovered.Personally I would recommend this to my friend as long as I enlightened them of the following:Pros:a) it really feels solid in the hand (like a small ingot) and display is sharp and sizeable enough for my tired eyes.b) microphones have a healthy bass about them, maybe a slight lack of crispness to the treble, but then I'm getting old :(c) battery consumption is surprisingly good.d) value for money for (above smart phone standard) stereo recording.Cons:a) device ONLY records stereo - when there is no noise reduction applied (noise floor is quite acceptable)b) there's no mp3 192k RECORDING option as stated in their website downloadable manual and pictorially shown on Amazon ad, but is available for music playback.c) Layout (for me) was a bit counter-intuitive as the big (REC) button tended to be my first option to confirm menu selections (soon got used)A new Con has come to light.d) I find that the device has a tendency to turn itself on at any time that suits it. At first I thought I was neglecting to turn it off myself but after doing a total reset and ensuring I switched it off I left it in plain sight for a week without using it. It switched itself on several times (that I witnessed) and occasionally switched itself off!

Compact and Very Well made. Excellent.
A quality dictation/record player. Controls are clear and positive. Record indicator is excellent. Sound quality is remarkably good from such a small on board speaker. Display is large and clear with good back lighting. Weighty and solid - built to last. Only criticism is the colour, White with gold trims is a bit girly for me but that's personal. Top marks for this unit and 5 stars. Highly recommended.Just bought second unit. Quality is superb and performance is awesome. Tried all the rest - this is simply the best. Out strips all the others. Highly recommended (except for colour! That's personal though). 5 Stars all day.
