Q: is this active the same time as the iphone, so 2 lines at the same time.

the gadget essentially is a separate mobile "phone" that the SIM goes into, it talks to the iPhone via Bluetooth and has an app that runs on the iPhone so that if the second line rings, receives and SMS etc, the app on the iPhone alters you and you can then deal with the call, SMS etc. The second line is active all of the time, because it is outside the iPhone and communicates via the Bluetooth iPhone app which you install. My personal use of it has been fine, I needed to use an international sim card and a local sim card and for that sort of thing, it's been very good.
