My Sewing Machine Book: A Step-by-Step Beginner's Guide

Excellent book, very good for beginners. Bought for my granddaughter as had previously bought for elder granddaughter, so easy to follow with some lovely pattern ideas to try and make, which both granddaughters have already done and excitedly talking about their next projects. Also has good tips and instructions for hand sewing and machine sewing. Highly recommend. This book is good for all ages, young and old.

Excellent book for kids. I bought this for my 9 yr old daughter who recently learnt to use my sewing machine. It has clear explanations and helpful pictures, and with the help of the book as a reminder, she was able to wind a bobbin and set up the sewing machine for use by herself. The projects in the book are fun and not too difficult for a beginner. My daughter was able to make the pencil case and doll's blanket, and learnt useful skills like inserting a zip. Highly recommended for any child who is keen to learn to use a sewing machine (and also adults, as I also found it rather helpful, as a beginner myself!).

I bough this for my Grand daughter who asked for a sewing machine for her 10th birthday. I wish I had read it before buying the toy machine that she requested. It recommends a full size machine. There are lots of simple projects to try and would suit an adult beginner as well as a child.

Sunday this week I picked up my first sewing machine (at 42 years old) and I bought this book the day before based on some of the other reviews. Its brilliant! I honestly didn't think I would be able to setup a sewing machine let alone sew anything. The book is very informative and covers things like terminology and equipment, being pretty much 100% new to sewing this has been so helpful. I went to the library and there were books that covered sewing and then books about sewing machines - this one covers both and includes templates you can trace right from the book, measurements etc. The only thing I would say that the first thing in the book to make is a heart, this was difficult due to the curvy lines, don't be disheartened with this, I went back to sewing things with straight lines and am improving! I am not 100% sure if this book is for kids or not (some bits are, where it mentions the use of an iron for example), but it is written for anyone to understand which is the beauty of it.

Bought as present for my 9 year old together with a child's sewing machine. The book is very detailed with well laid out and simple instructions, which are easy to follow. The illustrations are fab and make looking through the book a joy. Delighted with this purchase, as always DK deliver great books for all ages.

I bought this book for my seven year old daughter and me to learn to use the sewing machine she got for Christmas. I am not a sewer and did not know how to use a machine. This book is clear and well-explained. The projects are attractive, often useful and quick to make, and both my daughter and I have now got the sewing bug! There are some lovely projects and the lessons learnt through following the patterns, have given both of us confidence to make (very simple) things without a pattern. I now understand the basics of a sewing machine and am thrilled that my daughter was able to get making things so quickly and easily and with so much success. I was worried that she might be turned off by how hard it was to get used to the machine but the patterns here have allowed her to have great results in quick time! Recommended!

Purchased as a gift for a 10 year old, the book is so well presented and colourfully illustrated that l found myself inspired by many of the projects described. Excellent for a complete beginner, but useful for the more experienced sewing machine user looking for some quick and easy craft ideas. Highly recommended.

Ho già un libro di Jane Bull, uno dei miei preferiti di sempre: "Made by me". Per questo motivo ho comprato con fiducia un altro testo della stessa autrice. Trovo che siano sempre bellissimi, pieni di idee incantevoli e colorate, suggerimenti che aprono la via a nuove ispirazioni creative. Pur essendo scritto in inglese, ritengo che le foto molto chiare e le spiegazioni passo per passo siano adatte a tutti e rimedino all'ostacolo della lingua.

Excellent introduction to sewing and sewing machines. Clear instructions and very helpful full-color photos. This book also includes plenty of fun projects. I am thrilled to have this in my personal library.

This is a very lovely, informative and practical guide to stitching, not just for kids but any beginner.

Nice beginners book

Can't wait to give this to my 8-year-old granddaughter for Christmas along with her new sewing machine. This is a very informative and well illustrated book.
