What is maximum range distance wise,how many feet?

I put my unit s about 15 feet apart. Moved the thermostat down hall away from furnace. Seem to do a better job keeping whole house evenly warm.

Does the wireless connection require a direct, "line of site" method or will it work around corner?

No it does not, mine is connected to unit in the attic and thermostat is kept in master bedroom one level below through walls. Works great!

Does the control module connect to the furnace?

The control module connects to the Furnace/AC Air Handler in the same way as your existing thermostat does. In my case, it's mounted in the same closet as the unit. The thermostat itself can then be mounted anywhere in the house.

Does the base unit require a "c" wire connection? i only have 4 wires: r, g, y, w for a 1 stage heat, 1 stage cooling system

Yes, you do need c wire connection
