Solid Series
Great series. Really enjoyed the roller coaster of events. It was nice to get more information about the early years of the Imperium, after the Great Heresy.

the same book rewritten twelve times
with the exception of book one, the series is poorly written. the characters do the exact same thing every book in the same locations to the same enemies and a lot of their motivations and reasoning make no sense. the editors and staff in charge of this project have let the series wander aimlessly for several volumes. you could pick up the last book in the series and not of missed anything vital to the storyline since book two.

Is this the final push?
Warning Minor spoliers aheadShadow of Ullanor by Rob Sanders is the 11th and penultimate book in the Beast Arises series by The Black Library, Games Workshop's publishing arm. In the 32nd Millennium Mankind's vast galatic Empire, the Imperium is facing defeat and extinction under the Orks, led by their Leader, known as the Beast. Using advanced technologies, vast numbers and the Imperiums divisions against it, the Orks have swept all before their path, destroying countless worlds and stand ready for the final push against Terra itself, Throneworld of the Imperium. With the events of the Last Son of Dorn, the Imperial Fists Space Marine chapter has finally ended and the successor chapters of the Fists come together to mourn the death of the Chapter. During this gathering, Maximus Thane, chapter Master of the Fists Examplar comes to a decision about how to continue the fight and enlists the aid of the rest of the Imperial Fist Successor chapters, to commit a great lie and reform the Imperial Fists as if they had never been defeated. Returning to Terra and enlisting the aid of the High Lords Kubrik, the Fabricator General of Mars and Drakan Vangorich, Grand Master of the Assassins, Thane gets the Imperial to commit virtually everything it has left in one final strike on Ullanor to kill the Beast. While The Imperium commits to this one last efoort, throwing asteroids at the planet, and then engaging in a climatic space war and land strike with what ever forces that can land, with the Imperial Fists at the tip of the attack, Vangorich comes to a decision. The High Lords had brought the Imperium to the brink of disaster, something permant had to be done about it....This, once again is a good book in the series. It is fast paced, and the action is intense and desperate. Rob Sanders does a good job with setting everything up and moving the story where it needs to be. I do have a few minor quibbles, namely the way that the asteroids are thrown at Ullanor, they were moving far to fast to get their, but some poetic license is needed for the story. Vangorich coming to the decision he makes at the end of the book is believable as it has been slowly built up for the entirety of the series and I look forward to seeing how the final book in the series 'The Beheading' deals with events. A great book, though not one you can jump into.
