Super Little Secateurs
Ordered from Amazon on the 4th Sept, arrived on 6th. Exactly as decribed. These were bought as replacements for a pair of aluminium bypass secateurs that I got from a garden centre at least five years ago, manf unknown. At first sight they look a bit flimsy being all plastic, except for the cutting blade. In practice they are just as sturdy as the old aluminium pair. With my old bypas secateurs there was a tendancy for the cutting blade to be forced away from the square edge non cutting blade if the stem or branch was a bit woody. Which meant that some times a clean cut was not obtained . For a 1/2" branch I would need two hands. The Drapper ratchet action secateurs cut easily though woody branches upto 1/2" and even a bit more. The ratchet action comes into play if there is any resistance. Depending on the resistance you just sweeze the handles together a few times and with the ratchet action the branch is cut neatly through. On green wood there feels to be no resistance at all, 1/2" woody branches require a moderate squeeze. I am cutting down a large old ornamental tree and using the secateurs to cut up the smaller branches into bins so that I can take them to the tip. Probably the new secateurs have done as much cutting in the last few day as my old pair have been subjected to in the 5 years I've had them. So far not showing any wear at all. After about 4 hours cutting each day my hands aren't showing any wear and no aching either.

The item pictured is not sent
The item actually pictured here is brilliant. I used these for many years and I was very impressed each time. Sadly, eventually they wore out, as is natural, and new ones purchased. Towards the end of their life problems arose with one of the pivot pins misaligning, but could be tapped back ok. On the item that is now sent, the pivot pins have been modified successfully but the overall quality of the cutters is very poor. Three times an item different to this one shown has been sent - when I have ordered on the strength of the picture shown. Are they really Draper? My advice is don't order this item as you will not be sent what is pictured.

Very dissapointed
After reading the previous reviews I decided to buy these secateurs as our old ones needed replacing. Now, I didn't know if the ones I received are faulty, but I find them very difficult to prune things with. Because they are of a ratchet type you need to fully open them before they will cut anything. Then, as you would expect, there is a sort of double movement to ease the cutting process. But the ones I received are very hit and miss. Sometimes they cut, and other times they don't. The whole mechanism seems VERY wobbly and unsteady and for that reason can't see them lasting the year out. When they do cut, they are sharp but then I would expect them to be as they are brand new. I was more than surprised at the flimsy quality as they are of a reputable brand. We have a Draper weed sprayer which it fantastic quality. Definitely not like these secateurs.A very disappointing purchase and would not recommend them. Received in good time and condition.

Draper Secateurs
We are pleased with the product. The action is light and swift. Only time will tell whether it will remain keen for long enough. So far, we have not given it much work being the Season. Since it is a ratchet action, one has to 'pump' the handles - well that is when ones hand works off of the end of the handle. It could do to have a 'stopper' or ball at the end of the handles - similar to a motorcycle brake lever. If one was to cut a twig with one snip, that is fine. But when hacking through anything thicker, the tool (secateur) tends to come away from ones hand.

Easy to use
I have had numerous pairs of these, not because they wear out but because I lose them in the garden or they get tipped in the bin with the garden cuttings. They are great to use if you are older as they require no effort with their rachet motion even for thicker branches, very light as well.

Excellent cut
My second pair of these - husband managed to drop first pair into our pond and they are lost forever. These are amazingly easy to use, especially if you are elderly or have a poor grip. I rub mine with WD40 after use to clean/preserve them. Would definitely recommend.NB JUST RECEIVED MY 3RD PAIR OF THESE SECATEURS AND THEY ARE NOWHERE NEAR THE QUALITY OF MY ORIGINAL PAIR. THEY 'FEEL' THE SAME BUT WILL NOT LOCK-ON, CLIP LOOP KEEPS OPENING AND FALLING OFF ALTOGETHER, WHICH IS VERY ANNOYING. WHEN I COMPARED THE NEW PAIR WITH OLDER ONES THE DIFFERENCE IN MANUFACTURE IS OBVIOUS. THE LATEST SECATEURS HAVE DIFFERENT TYPES OF RIVETS TO HOLD THEM TOGETHER. EVEN THE LOGO, 'DRAPERS' IS DIFFERENT. I COULDN'T NOW RECOMMEND THESE SECATEURS.

It's Bright Green
I nearly didn't buy these because the colour was too dark and I felt that they'd get lost amongst the garden clippings. However they're actually flourescent green, which is much brighter than the dark green on the Amazon website and absolutely fine for visibility. They're a replacement for the old yellow ones in the other photos which are over 30 years old and now rather blunt but which have survived much abuse and still work. If the new ones are half as good they may see me out. NB although they look very similar they're actually rather bigger - they open much wider which is OK for me but something to bear in mind if you have small hands.

Rubbish.
I really thought I was getting a bargain here and took on board the positive comments, but I wasted my time. You can tell as soon as they arrive that they are cheap and not of good quality. I thought I would give them a go but didn't get far. They are very light in the hand, but that's probably because the handles are hollowed out and flimsy. The anvil style cutting mechanism is a pain and makes cutting awkward and disjointed. It cut a few bigger branches but the force I had to use risked snapping the hinges. They don't cut smaller soft stems, just mashing them in the lower plastic cutting surface. I have no idea how these can be passed as safe for use. I sent mine back and got two pairs of high quality secateurs with a 2 year guarantee from ASDA for five pounds. I have also had far better quality buying from a pound shop.
