Fantastic Air Conditioner
Great packaging, loved that it had heavy-duty strap, making it easy to get to window. Installation instructions perfect (great installation video). So easy to install, no bracket needed. It’s quiet, no rattling, just a gentle hum. My old a/c had a louver that vibrated. Windmill has none. The double-sided insulation snaps into place, looks good & keeps out street noise. Love the app. I’ll probably never use the remote. Not a fan of the “eco” mode (I wasn’t with my old a/c either). Low fan on cool keeps room at consistent, comfortable temperature. Highly recommend!

Overall a well built AC, with excellent installation kit, but lacks an inverter compressor
Mine’s an attic window install, and it does its job nicely, without much issues and noise. When the attic cools down, the cold air starts tumbling down through the staircase, cooling the lower room.App control is a plus and I can change the settings, turn it on/off and check power consumption.I have tested its operation with an Ecoflow River 2 Pro solar battery / inverter. This a/c unit can work even during a power outage or with solar panels using a proper rated inverter.Forget about temperature accuracy with the Eco mode, which I use when no one is in the room. The filter cleaning reminder feature is a gimmick and there should be a way to disable it. My filter remains clean, but the unit thinks it’s dirty. Need to have an adjustable timing on that. The filter cover is designed in a very accessible manner with magnets and all.The remote is nicely labeled but there is no proper place on the unit to drop it in.I liked the cut-to-size insulation panels, the adjustable sliders that fill until the window ends, and the semi-permanent style installation on a vinyl window. The outside grill is a nice touch and protects the condenser from damage. My only nit is the constant compressor cycling with thermostat engagements. There is no variable compressor in the unit. At this price-point this is a requirement and is a big miss by the company.

Beware - windmill does not stand the test of time
I purchased this unit in 2023 and loved it. It cools my bedroom well and I enjoyed using the app, it looks great and is easy to install. Fast forward 2 years later I start experiencing technical bugs - disconnected from the app, random beeping, modes/temperatures changing on their own. I contacted Windmill support and they recommended a hard reset. After conducting this reset, I haven't been able to get the unit to cool for even 30 seconds before it starts malfunctioning. Windmill support said that the unit's control board malfunctioned, but since I am 1 year past the warranty, they would not provide me with a replacement despite this being a product defect.Don't waste your money. Having to now replace a $350 machine after just 2 years is a huge letdown, and I will be buying a cheap little frigidaire that will likely last 5+ years at a fraction of the price.

Noise level not as expected
All windows AC, regardless of brand, perform one function; cool down a space/room. For this review, I am putting installation and operations aside. I am only focusing on the most important aspect to me, the noise level. Based upon the many positive reviews, I purchased a Windmill Air Conditioner Smart Home AC Unit 6000 BTU for a small home office (12ft x10ft).The test setup:Sound measuring device = Samsung Galaxy S6 & Sound Meter app by Abc Apps.Table setup at 8ft directly in front and at the same height as AC.Thermometer = DIGI-SENSE Traceable Wall-Mount Digital Clock/Calendar x2I began the test by making the room as quest as possible. Everything was shutdown, windows and doors closed and all outside noise within my control were also turned OFF. I measured the room noise level, then set the AC unit to Cool, Fan Low, Fan Medium and Fan High. Results are:OFF (room dB) = 21Fan Low dB = 49Fan Med dB = 51Fan Hi dB = 53I was surprised and somewhat disappointed to say the least. This was loud. From all the reviews, I thought the noise level should be lower. Windmill Air advertised this to be quiet. It’s louder than my 15 yr. old Whirlpool. Definitely very loud for sleeping. It’s in the office, but I will have to shut it down for virtual meetings or calls.Another note:The temperature gauge is consistently off by about 8-10 degrees. Its reading 63 degrees while the room thermometer is reading 73. This is occurring all the time. The unit shuts down while the room is still warm. My room thermometers are Digi Sense 08610-26 Traceable Wall-Mount Digital Clock/Calendar NIST which are calibrated and compliant for ISO, FDA, and cGMP manufacturing environments. I’m fairly confident that the Windmill Air AC’s temperature control is in-accurate.I have two different brand AC units in the bedrooms which I will put into the same test. More to come….UPDATE: I have to give a shout out to Windmill Air's customer service. They were very supportive and we went over several debug methods. 5 stars to customer service. The rattling noise was still there after debugging and in the end, they sent me a replacement unit. I put it through the same test as described above. While the rattling noise was gone with the new AC, the noise level itself was not as quiet as expected. The decibels were still the same.I did a comparison with my other two ACs: Midea 8000 BTU U-Shaped and a 15 yr Whirlpool ~1800 BTU.The results are:OFF (room dB) Fan Low dB Fan Med dB Fan Hi dBWindmill Air 6000 BTU 21 49 51 53Midea 8000 BTU U-Shaped 21 32 35 41Whirlpool 21 42 49 49The Midea was truly quiet coming in at 32dBs on low fan setting. Perfect for a bedroom. The Windmill Air is ideally a small office AC and the noise level is acceptable for that purpose.I have upgraded my review to 3 stars for the level of customer service.

So easy to install
Just what I needed for a hot upstairs bedroom. This took me under 20 minutes to install. I admit I didn’t bother reading the instructions either. So simple. I’ve had it almost 2 months and I love it. Cools a decent size master bedroom and is not loud at all. I’m sleeping great. Best part…I can lay in bed and use my phone app to control the unit. I don’t regret the purchase.

Good AC Overall
Updating my review. So the device itself is great at keeping my apartment cool and it does seem to be less noisy and does not vibrate as much as my previous AC unit. It’s also more aesthetically pleasing, it kind just blends in to my white blinds. However, I find the app frustrating. My automations to turn off the AC unit work. Which is great. But whenever I schedule the an automation for the unit to automatically turn on at a certain time, it does seem to work.Having said that I’m in contact with support and they’re trying to walk me through it via email and everyone I’ve spoken to has been very nice and responds fast. Hopefully this will get figured out.
