The drive seems to work OK on my Windows 10 system to read data DVD's, but I can't get it to play a movie. I've tried it with two different computers and several movie DVD's. I've requested help from the seller and will update this review if anything changes.6/12/18 update. Did a web search for the model number on the back of the drive, ECD819-SU3, and turns out that model number is for the housing, not the actual drive inside. Apparently it is used with a number of different drives, many of which have been taken from used computers. If you look in Device Manager - DVD drives, you can determine the actual drive details, in my case a Matshita UJ880AS, circa 2010. The fact that a variety of drives can be put in the housing may explain why there are vastly different experiences when using this product. I resolved my DVD movie issue by changing it to Region 1 (it had been 2) in device properties. The seller was very responsive in helping me resolve my issue. I have raised the rating to 3 stars.

I like watching movies and also collecting some classic movies. My old laptop was probably bought seven years ago which begins to appear a variety of problems. Now I got a new one from my sister a month ago. But it doesn't have an optical disc drive which is bad for me. So I wanna get an external driver. I searched a lot and after compared them, I decided to buy this one. BTW, the Express is awesome cause it delivered three days in advance. The driver turns out to be a good one. I think I'm gonna use it a lot later on.

It worked out of the box with no issues. It burns CDs at a good rate and I have no problem with playing CDs or DVDs - my only gripe is it seems much slower to digitize my CDs than my old LG Slim Portable.

Works very well however I question how long the cable will last. The connect must be bent over every take you unhook the cable. I could see this breaking eventually (see photo).

You need to download software to make it work. But I think it works. Arrived on time and we'll packaged. Worth it

This DVD drive only played some discs. I have a disc with large file photos (6MB each) and it took forever to open each file. It seemed like some files were lost. It also took a long time to read the movie I tried to play. A couple discs I tried to play were unreadable by the drive although they were regular discs that played elsewhere. I was about to return it and the return window had closed so I'm stuck with it. Going to Goodwill...

I don’t like the short wire and how delicate it feels but it works. It also makes a lot of noise so if you’re gunna what a movie or something wear headphones.

Works, only issue is the DVD gates stuck when opening the player. Can't complain for the price.

Guess these days with newer laptops getting smaller and all things going digital, the humble dvd drive is becoming more and more redundant, but gadgets like this will certainly have a placeWas unsure this would work well as it only uses a single USB connection (no external PSU) and was bit worried it would struggle, but can’t say have encountered any issues yet..whatsoever. Used to perform clean windows install, install of older software and burned numerous CD/DVD discs and it’s been flawlessLovely compact design and the brushed metal looks great. USB cable has a little to slot into when not being used and its quite lightweight so can be left in the laptop bag quite comfortablyExcellent bit of kit this and decent value!

Works perfectly. The inbuilt drive on my laptop stopped working, short of buying a new laptop which I cant afford this is a great solution to my problem. Usb 3.0 means fast read/write speeds, the usb cable is hardwired so handy when not being used as I can’t lose the cable.

Well It's a DVD player and it works so that's the main thing. I have only used it to play a DVD so far and It's fine. I like that you can tuck away the USB lead into the back of it, nice and neat. Just plug in and play no need to install or download any software.
