Good color that matches natural substrate. ceramic media with a lot of texture almost sand like texture. Broken pieces are still usable in a sump style set up but harder to stack. I did have 10 come broken.

Wow! I did not expect to get as much product as I received. You get 54 pieces of bio filter media that you can use in your aquarium filter. They are fairly long individually but you can probably break them up into smaller sections for your needs.I used about 3-4 in my hang-on-back filter along with other sponge media for better filtration. This kept my aquarium nice and clean and the best part is that I was able to rinse them to reuse.Since they are hollow on the inside, you can use them as hideouts for your little shrimp which would serve as a double-purposed item.You definitely get a good amount for the value!

These ceramic sticks are heavy duty and sturdy and the porosity is great for inducing biofilter growth. However, even the small pretty sizable and would be suitable for large canister filters only.

I want to start by clarifying that I have zero experience with bio filter materials, but I am installing a pond in my yard and wanted to try this out.That being said, I have read that texture is most important, and that all the dips and grooves are for good bacteria to grow and thrive. These blocks are definitely full of dips and grooves. They have a texture similar to that of a pumice stone almost, but more rough. Inside the block isn't as textured or rough as the outside, but it is still textured. I'm not sure if the different colors mixed in are decorative or have a function, but it looks nice, almost like coral. Of the 24 blocks, 21 made it to me intact. The other 3 were broken, however, I have read that many times people buy larger blocks and break them apart to create even more surface area, so I wasn't bothered by the broken ones.I am confident these will do well to filter my pond once it is up and running. I look forward to updating in a few months with some results.

Good value for the money. Individually light weight, but add about 6 or more together it adds weight so keep in mind with the weight when handling. I use mine in a pond so i cannot put too many in or else it will be heavy to pull up from water filter. They are porous so it has been great for good service bacteria to grow. I was worried it will start to disintegrate and get sandy but it has held up so well. I highly recommend

I am very happy with the quality of this product. I have 5+ decades of freshwater aquarium experience thanks to my dad who started us in this hobby when I was still in elementary school! I've used many variations of bio media in tanks from 10 gallons to 125 gallons, and this is an extremely nice product. I opted for the small size which is 1"x1"x3.8" because I am using it in smaller (20 gallon) quarantine and grow-out tanks. It's easy enough to break into smaller pieces but I chose to get the small size anyway. I hope my photos show the great texture to these. Extra side grooves also increase surface area. They were shipped cushioned with foam and packed tightly to prevent damage. Very versatile for a wide range of uses and filtration styles. I'm very happy and impressed with the ALEGI Ceramic Bio Filter Media and plan to purchase more.

I dont believe in ceramics for filter media in aquariums- ponds, yes so I purchased these for a completely different reason... cherry shrimp structures. Full size or broken at desired angles, they provide shelter for dwarf shrimp and are great for attaching plants in your aquarium. Young dwarf shrimp and fish fry are safe from larger residents in the aquarium. A little pricey but you get lots to build as you wish.
