Well worth the money
This is a great product!I'll compare this cervical stretcher to the one used at my physical therapists office. I have two bulging disc's as a result of a car accident. At physical therapy, I lay face-up on the table and the automatic traction device stretched my neck for a period of 15 minutes. One session yielded positive results for two months. However, the pain returned. And I could feel my neck re-compressing.So, I found this unit on amazon. After hesitating over the price and the mixed reviews, I decided to take the leap. This product is made with high-quality silicone, and adjustable head strap, similar to the used in the physical therapists office. It adjusts via manual compression instead of automatic. I prefer this because it allows me to adjust to my comfort level. As for as the results:I can feel an incredible difference equal to the machine in the physical therapist's office.Make sure you adjust slowly. When you reach a point where you feel your neck cannot stretch any further hold it for 15 min. One you're finished, SLOWLY release the valve. You will sit up and instantly feel a difference. However, I am not a doctor and I cannot advise you how to use this device. This is only a review.I'm very blessed to have this device. And I hope it will continue to provide years of relief.

Relief for long term neck pain
I have suffered from neck pain for many years; cervical spondylosis and bulging discs. I used to do decompression therapy (kind of like traction, but more specifically targeted) at the chiropractor. My chiropractor moved away and nobody had the same equipment around here. Then I found this and I wish I had found it sooner. It's nice to get some relief again. It's not a multi thousand dollar professional machine, but it does work well for me. My neck still hurts, and I know I'll just live with that, but it's a lot more tolerable with using this regularly. I chose this unit over the Saunders because the incline starts at 10 degrees instead of 15. I'm no doctor, but my understanding (and experience with this) is that the lower angle works better for the upper cervical area, which is where the worst of my pain is. I do still go to a chiropractor for manual adjustment and he did say that I am easier to adjust since I have been using this ComfortTrac traction device. The one thing I don't like is that the strap is not near as easy to use as the instructional video shows. It was hard to get it to line up evenly across the forehead. You might want to get someone to help you with that. Once it is adjusted snugly, I find that it can be slipped on and off without unfastening it first. If I could change anything about this unit, it would be the way the strap works, but I'm not going to dock it a star for that because really do I love it.One last thing is comfort. Nothing that sits on your occiput and pulls is going to be truly comfortable, but the pain relief is enough that I still tend to fall asleep in this thing. Only for a few minutes at a time, but that says a lot about the comfort level!Yes, it was expensive, but it was money well spent!

Helpful product, not perfect
I herniated two discs, C5/C6 and C7/T1 and am symptomatic with both, tingling in the fingers, loss of finger and especially thumb strength, some loss of wrist and bicep strength as well. I also have an athletic build with a 17.5" neck, previous review suggested this would be problematic. Looking at other available solutions, there didn't appear to be any better solutions so I decided to give this a try.To use the unit, you set it up and lay on your back resting your head in between the adjustable rests which pinch the neck at the base of your skull. With my particular build, my neck is almost as wide as my head at the base of the skull, so with the rests set wide enough to accommodate my neck, there isn't a lot of skull for the rests to grab. But there still is some. There is also an adjustable velcro strap which goes across the forehead holding down the head into the rests and providing some grip.Once positioned there is a very good mini bike pump which allows you to pump up a piston and stretch the neck. Pump takes little effort to get to a reasonable working pressure and has a dial which is calibrated in pounds of tension. Very nice.Overall quality of the unit is very good.My biggest complaint in the velcro strap. With a thick neck, the rests don't have a lot of grip, I have to rely heavily upon the strap to hold my head in position. The strap is awkward to use. It has a some stretch to it and it needs to be pulled securely and it is more difficult than it needs to be especially if one of your hands has lost some of it's finesse from a pinched nerve, a likely scenario for someone who would purchase this product. I have to stretch the right side straight up, pull it over my forehead to the left side, somehow either hold it with my right hand now on the left side and use the left hand to pull the left strap over to the other side without the right hand getting in the way, or switch hands without losing tension. Even worse, the quality of the velcro doesn't look like something that will hold up very well. The fuzzy side is just regular fabric.Once I do have the strap tight enough to hold my head in position, the strap is uncomfortably tight, not uncomfortable enough to where I am not going to use itI have another unit, the http://www.amazon.com/Posture-1000-Cervical-Hydrator-Standard/dp/B003DLZ0OE/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1398614978&sr=8-8&keywords=neck+traction. Function wise it doesn't seem to help with my condition, but its strap and velcro are much better and it is much easier to place correctly, tighten without assistance, and holds the head securely.I could see where if your neck wasn't as thick, the strap may not be very critical as you could probably get enough bite from the rests to where it wasn't needed. Don't know for sure though. Finally, just a comment on the results. When the discs first herniated and I became very symptomatic, I couldn't touch the thumb and the little finger on my left hand together. Some chiro adjustments, trainload of anti-inflammatories, plus time got me to where I could but severe loss of strength, certain gripping functions down to 10% of normal. At 3 months, my rate of improvement seemed to stagnate, I purchased this ~5 months after and have been using it pretty consistently for 3 weeks. Using it 3x/day for 10-15 minutes each seems pretty effective. In general, tingling is reduced, I'm not having to take the 1800 mg/day of ibuprofen, and some of the hand and finger function has come back. Of course, you mileage may vary.

It's worth spending a little more
I had a tough time trying to decide between options on Amazon, obviously it's difficult without being able to physically see the item.I was a little hesitant on the "pump" mechanism, but this one had lots of great reviews so I went with it. The pump barely takes any effort, and the product works great.Be sure to strap down your head for it to be effective, otherwise your head tends to slide out a bit and you don't get a great stretch.Would highly recommend 👍
