Fun for kids who enjoy learning how things work
This kit comes with all the parts you need to assemble a small FM radio and Bluetooth speaker. My 9 year-old is really interested in how things work and has previously assembled a couple of other kits similar to this with a little help from me. It includes the cut-out pieces that have to be punched out, along with the parts and screws. The instructions aren't super detailed, and he got confused a couple of times. I supervised and helped him when needed. The audio quality isn't great but he did get a kick out of putting them together. It was a nice project and an alternative to screen time. But I also had to explain the concept of FM radio to him, LOL.

Fun project with the kids
The media could not be loaded. I enjoyed building these little projects with my kids. There isn't a lot of science involved, it's mostly just assembly of parts, but it gives some opportunities to teach basic electrical circuits as well as fundamentals of tools and building. As expected, the sound quality isn't particularly good, but it's good enough for this purpose. The bluetooth speaker is pretty easy to use, although the sound quality isn't great. It automatically pairs to my phone when it's turned on. It has a broken English voice that announces the pairing status. When paired, it loudly announces "the bluetooth connection is starting to make money" which I found to be hilarious (see video). The radio seemed to be the harder of the two to assemble, but I think it's a good challenge, and it's a neat design when completed. The reception is pretty poor, so bear that in mind.I think the age range of 8-12 is accurate. My kids are younger, but it was still fun to show them how to build it and they enjoyed decorating the parts. I think it would be a fun gift for a pre-teen so long as your expectations of sound quality and performance aren't too high.

STEM kit featuring Bluetooth speaker and FM radio
One thing to note is that these kits is that the the parts are held together by screws. All tools are included except batteries although I heavily recommend also having a sanding paper/stick to help smooth out some of the pieces as the wood pieces aren't cut that well compared to proper wood models. Adult supervision and assistance is heavily recommended. The kit is composed of two models: a FM radio and a bluetooth speaker. Each are bagged separately in their own bags. The radio was easy enough to put together. However, the speaker was another story. One issue with the bluetooth speaker assembly is the use of the heat shrink tubes which is something you have to be careful with. Only use the heat on the tube that connects the 3 wires and leave the other tubes as is. It also helps to have a tweezer handy to help thread and wrap the wires around the connectors before sliding the tubes over them. Another issue that I had was that the color of the wires for the USB did not match the colors in the instructions and the instructions for the wiring was not consistent regarding which terminal of the switch you should connect the USB and battery wire to. Because of that, there may have been an error in wiring the speaker because while the speaker runs on batteries with no problem, it does not run on the USB connection at all.As far as function goes, outside of the problem with the USB power supply, both devices ran without issue. However, both devices do not keep their settings so when turning on, you will need to reset the devices to the desired volume, connection, and radio settings. At the end of the day, these are just demonstration devices and they do their job at that but not much more. One more thing to be careful about with the kits is that the speakers are highly magnetic and you'll definitely one to keep your electronics and other magnetically sensitive devices away from them. Frankly, I would not gift this item based on my own experience due to the problems raised regarding the wiring issue. Hopefully the manufacturer will fix or has already fixed the problem when this review comes out.

The sound is pretty good.
Alright, so I got this STEM kit for my kid's birthday, figuring it'd be a cool way to get her into some hands-on learning instead of just staring at a screen. I wasn't expecting much, but this thing turned out to be pretty awesome.First off, it wasn't some flimsy plastic toy. The wooden pieces felt solid, and the whole Bluetooth speaker thing seemed legit. I'll admit, I was a bit worried about her setting it up, but the instructions were clear enough even for my tech-challenged daughter. We got it working in no time. Now, here's the best part: My daughter loves it. She was so proud of building something that actually worked. She blasts her music from it all the time, and it sounds pretty decent for a DIY speaker. It's also sparked her curiosity about how things work, which is exactly what I was hoping for. This kit is a win-win. It's fun, educational, and the end result is something she actually uses. I'd recommend it to any parent looking for a gift that's both cool and smart.
