Amore - Italian Anchovy Paste, (2)- 1.6 oz. Tubes

Full disclosure….this is the first time I’ve ever used Anchovy paste. I’ve started cooking a lot since I retired and discovered a recipe for “Butter of the Gods” after watching steak prep videos on YouTube. I admit to feeling a bit nervous about including Anchovy to the recipe. However, it turned out fantastic and will be a staple in my steak prep going forward. This product arrived quickly, well-packaged and was smooth and creamy and tasted great. One tip…it seems to be packed under slight pressure. So when you open it, be prepared for a little to immediately ooze out when you open the seal. Will definitely order again.

These have earned a place in my pantry. They were delivered on time, with more than a year of remaining 'Use By..." time. Very easy to add a dab of flavor to our made from scratch pizza at home or to a Caesar salad by adding thin stripes of the paste to the inside of the spines of the Romaine salad leaves simulating the taste of whole sardines. Do not have to keep open cans of sardines in the refrigerator. The flavor seems just a tiny bit muted compared to whole sardines in a can, but I did not do a direct comparison, just from memory. Very easy to control the amount of flavor you are adding.

I love the flavor of the anchovy paste. Have ordered this a few times & was very satisfied. The last order was disappointing. One of the tubes was damaged so I had to throw it away. Probably damaged in shipping but I’m not sure I will ever order it again. Can’t afford to waste money on something I can’t use.

Great for using in compound butter or salad dressing i really like this

We have a Caesar salad with our homemade spicy dressing at least 5 nights a week. When the pandemic hit we discovered that a lot of other folks must do so as well since the grocery store was completely sold out of anchovy paste, not to mention garlic too. To all the 'purists' out there I know I am supposed to use whole anchovies and pound them to a paste, but that is too much work not the most pleasant of kitchen fragrances. Also, it won't keep very long. In any case when I switched over to using the paste, neither of us could tell the difference, probably because we use a number of non-mainstream ingredients in our dressing. But I digress... Ordered this brand of anchovy paste on-line and although it was initially backlogged, it arrived right before it was time to whip up a new batch. It is good of quality and texture and I am going to continue buying this from amazon rather than return to purchasing in the store. When I open the 2nd tube I know it is time fro me to place an order. And what a quinky-dink, as I am finishing this review my wife stuck here head in the office to tell me I need to whip up a batch soon. Paraphrasing Mighty Mouse" There I go to save the day!

Aside from the usual applications reviewed by many, I would like to point out an additional use. Dissolve this paste in small quantities to sauces such as spaghetti. No one will ever suspect what it is, but they will notice an added depth and complexity of flavor that is impressive. Once I discovered this I have found it broadly useful, as well as economical and long lasting.

This is a product I know and like, I figured Amazon was the best bet for getting it, as it is sometimes hard to find in grocery stores. One of the tubes had leaked and the smell of stale rotting anchovy paste was quite disgusting. Poor packaging. And I was out of town until now so I missed the return date....
