It definitely works for small mice. We'll see about chipmunks and squirrels.
I haven't used it in cordless battery mode, you have to purchase four D batteries separately. The device comes with a short two prong detachable plug with a red light so that you know you have AC power. The device has an off/on switch and a detachable short cord with a blue light on the end. This is so you can put the device in a hidden area and still be able see the flashing light indicating the trap has been triggered. So far in about 4 weeks we have eradicated 4 field mice, 4 red squirrels, 5 chipmunks, and 6 gray squirrels. We only set it outside on days with no precipitation because it is not waterproof, and we usually get at least one critter when we do.

Nice mouse trap
I had a mouse in my pantry and this trap zapped it, thank goodness. I took it and shook it outside. If you have mice, I suggest you try this, very nice way to get rid of them.

Humane and clean
I like it and this one is SUPERIOR. I say that because the top comes off and it is easy to put the bait in the end and also easy to clean. With the top coming off it is easy to just dump the rodent out of the trap. No need to touch a snap trap or even get close to the dead rodent. It works well and not only blinks when there is something in it but it also gives off a beeping signal that it has caught something. And this is far more humane and ecological-minded than poison.

It works!
After parking my car in the garage I plugged in the zapper to an extension cord and placed it beside by front tire under the car. Within a few hours I got my first kill. I used bird suet in a small plastic cap and placed it in the device, it made for an easy cleanup, I just dumped out the dead mouse, detached the upper half of the device and wiped the bottom half dry. This zapper is not rated for outdoor use when there is a chance of rain or blowing/melting snow getting into the unit. Modify for outdoor use at your own risk. I'm tempted, but we will see how well it holds up in my garage with my melting snow under the vehicle.
