The Big Book of Jewish Humor

This books is the gold standard for its genre. I've purchased it multiple times for others. In many sections, the editors' marginal comments give better explanations for the historical, literary, and logical context than I've seen in scholarly treatments. Much of the book contains excerpts from longer works, some of which I like very much and others which I could do without, but there's always a rationale for the included material and how it relates to the cultural and historical contexts of Jewish humor. And the marginal notes often include additional, relevant jokes that are as good or better than the featured sections.Some of the material is more interesting than funny, but a lot of it is really funny as well-- and if you don't get the jokes at first, this is the kind of book that (on repeated readings) could help you to get the humor over time. I'm a big fan.

Gave this to a good friend for his 99th birthday. He’s updating his repertoire of jokes. Loves it. He says there are some good ol’ ones and some goid new ones he hasn’t heard.

I got this book confused with Zvi's book on Jewish humor, which I didn't even read, but it's a scholarly treatise on the subject. Can you rectify my mistake? THIS is the large collection that I enjoyed so much reading and also found educational.

This is an unbelievable book of Jewish stories and jokes by modern and ancient authors from Woody Allen, Doonsbury, The Wise Men of Chelm to Sholom Aleichem. The 300 pages is an amazing collection in one place of almost every category of story and joke you can think of.

If you're Jewish, were raised around Jewish friends, or are familiar with Jewish humor, get this book.It's brilliant and has humor in it for every one, from the dry to the witty, from the political to the familial.

It is difficult to think of any situation where there isn't a Jewish joke that puts a humourus slant to it.

This is a great book to pick up and flip through for some good laughs when you're not in the mood to launch into a whole new novel. Every guest room should have one. Your guests will thank you.

Many jokes will offend the sensibilities of feminists. Worth it for the jokes that aren't about married couples hating each other, or women only caring about how much money a man makes.Could definitely use an update, or at least some comments on sexist humour.
