If you have a Zhiyun gimbal this is a must have.
Develop your skills with a gimbal doing zooms as you move the camera. This thing even moves the zoom (which usually have much more resistance than the focus) big lenses like the full frame Samyang 35-150mm 2-2.8. Just switch the motor from focus to zoom.

It works great, but with troubleshooting
*HOT TIP*If you have a lens with autofocus, and a relatively common camera (meaning the gimbal can interact with it via included usb cables), you can actually switch that lens into “manual” and use the gimbal to focus it without the need for this motor! Digital focus is a feature! However, I have a manual only lens…What’s in the box is pretty straightforward: you get a mounting bracket with a locking screw, a rail, the motor itself, and 2 gears (one short and one long) that look almost like zip ties. It comes with an instruction booklet, but I watched a YouTube video… either way putting it on is actually fairly intuitive. BUT I faced a couple hiccups and I know I’m not alone. The first hiccup was I tried mounting it on the left side of the gimbal (weebill s) which would be directly above the focus knob. However, the locking screw that locks the motor in place on the rail bumps against the locking screw that holds the rail in place. This is probably because my lens is pretty short (compared to a cinema lens, I’m using this with an Odisho 35mm f2 manual lens). So, I had to remount the entire thing on the other side, and it was no longer an issue (this device can go on either side so it’s fine, and now it’s closer to where it plugs into the gimbal). Then you just wrap whichever gear you need (shorter one in this case) around the focus ring on the lens. Unlike a zip tie that pulls through itself, this slides into the little clip that’s on one end from the side. *this will lead to issue #2I plugged it into the gimbal with the included USB C cable and turned on my gimbal and instantly it worked… mostly. Problem number two: where the gear wraps into itself keeps banging into the baseplate the camera sits on, which prevents the motor from turning the focus ring all the way.Again, this is probably because I’m using a lens that’s MAYBE 4” long, so it’s short compared to a telephoto or long zoom lens, or a cinema lens. My solution (for now anyway) is I slid the camera forward on the baseplate about a centimeter (throwing off my balance slightly) and removed the large silver thumbscrew that’s on the front of the baseplate (I believe this is just to secure the optional lens support bracket the gimbal comes with, but I have to double check). After a quick recalibration of the focus motor (literally just hold down the “cal” button until it figures out where it stops and starts automatically, takes like 5 seconds) it worked exactly as it should. The true solution to both my problems is probably to purchase the riser plate. The “Zhiyun-tech Transmount Camera Backing Base Plate”. It’s basically an arcaswiss style quick release plate that screws into the camera and has holes for the gimbal baseplate to screw into it. This is sold separately (because why include a $3 piece of plastic when you can make me buy it for $20 plus shipping?). And it’s nowhere to be found on Amazon, I’ve only seen it on other sites. Though there are 3rd party similar items on here for less. But as I said, once I dealt with the hiccups, it works, great, the focus wheel feels pretty smooth. If you have a manual only lens, this is a better option than trying to hold a gimbal and focusing on the camera.

Handy with room for improvement
I really like the idea behind this part. The mechanism seems to work well when powered on. It's small enough to be out of the way in most cases.I'd recommend to the mfg to design the guide gear ring in a way that it does not fall off. This is quite inconvenient when in the middle of filming. It's also a process to install with the correct grip around the lens.

Can't live without it
Does what it's supposed to do well, easy to setup, built sturdy, strong motors and definitely doesn't feel cheap. I think the lens straps could be a bit more secure, but they work ok. Powered by the Gimbal so no need to worry about battery life. Survives an entire wedding day without draining the Gimbal battery.

Received a defective item, seller did not help with any resolution- disappointed
Item was defective and I tried it three times to make it work but it didn’t. I reached out to the seller Zhi elephant and highlighted the issue and seller was not very helpful. They just asked me to return the product. I don’t think, I will buy anything from this seller because I admire sellers who care about their customers and understand the importance of our research we put in before we buy things.
