Just buy it. It's the best set.
These are absolutely perfect. I decided to get back into painting after a decade plus break. I was convinced my paints would be useless so I looked for a premade pallet and tried one but it was a dud. I thought for $6.99 I could try to use my old tubes instead of waisting a decent amount to try another pallet. I am shocked by the quality of these. I used my old prismacolor colored pencil tin (the 24 pack) and it fit all 50 perfectly with room for a couple brushes. Yes, I did say 50. Not 48. In fact this set came with 53 pans and 50 magnets. I was also shocked that all but 4 colors are good after all this time. This set saved me a good chunk of money and my time and patience by not having to try another pallet. If I had to pick a con, it would be the fact that I now have to wait days for them to dry before I paint, which would be a problem with any pan on the market. I actually prefer the magnets on these than the sets that comes with pans that fit in a line. I like to be able to move them around easily. I don't have to pop them out of a specific spot. And I can also put a couple in an Altoids tin on the go.PS, a little trick my teacher friend taught me, if you need to erase sharpie in the future, go over it with a dry erase marker. Comes right off of you need to relabel.

Magnetic half pans - 5 stars!
Excellent value! Any tin becomes a portable palette with these magnetic half pans. The magnets are easily adhered like stickers and prevent the half pans from sliding around in a tin. They are strong enough to hold the half pans in place when tipped vertically and even upside down (once the paint dries). I premix my blends of tube paints into multiple steps between two colors, sorted in mint tins, with masking tape to label the side of each half pan. They even stay put with gentle nudging from a brush to activate the dried paint. I’m buying more.

Pans are great -- magnets not so much
I have a few palette tins, and like to switch out my half pans between them, depending upon what I'm working on. On one of the palettes, the pans slide back and forth in the metal strip. I thought the magnets would be perfect to keep them in place, but unfortunately, once the magnet is put on the bottom, the pan is now too high to fit in the channel. Not only that, but the magnets are very weak, and the pan still slides around on whatever metal surface you use.If you're buying these pans because you get a large amount of pans for a very inexpensive price, then get them, but if you're buying them in the hopes that the magnets will help, I think you'll be disappointed.I rated this a 4-star because the pans are a good deal. If I were just rating the magnets, I'd only give it 1 star.

Glad I bought these half pans
The media could not be loaded. I bought these to replace the plastic wells the came with my Pretty Excellent watercolors. I didn't care for it which was a downer since I couldn't fit my brushes in the metal tin. Enter these beauties. It took some wiggling to remove the paint from the plastic wells (each of the paints is glued down) but once removed the fit into the half pans. Full disclosure -- I did have to push my paint into the half pans so don't expect them to just slide in. But they do fit perfectly and the magnetics (reason I bought these) were easy to apply. The magnets stuck to the half pans and to the tin with no problem. I wonder how well I they stick once wet but I'll come back to update it they stop sticking. Anyway, it also can with 52 half pans and 50 magnets which was a nice touch. All in all great deal for the price and the extras. Now I can rearrange my half pans and add extra paintbrushes to the tin. I can also add extra half pans though I don't need it... not yet. Get these half pans and happy painting. 🎨

Great for your own colors you like
I had some half pans that I got from a Windsor Newton set, the magnetic strip that you can trim to put on the bottom of the half pans, keeps them from sliding back and forth inside the Meeden Palette that I had purchased from here also. I like metal surface because the watercolor doesn't puddle up, it lays flat and you can see the color plain. That was why I don't like plastic palettes. These are awesome, plus you can take an ultra fine sharpie marker and mark the title of each color on the side of the half pan. You can also trim out a piece of watercolor paper and paint a little dot of each color and label it, this way you also know how the color will lay on watercolor paper. Great Luck with your adventure, and happy painting!

My favorite way to store watercolor cake pans.
I love using these to store my half pan watercolor collection. I’m pleased they come with magnets so that if the entire palette isn’t full of pans they don’t move and slide around. I repackaged all my art philosophy and arteza cake pans into 3 of these palettes because they are perfect. If you have tube watercolors you can fill up the pans provided with it and let them harden. I especially appreciate that the lid is removable and does not have a hinge so that it doesn’t take up too much table space when I’m using them. I put a sticker on the top so I don’t accidentally open it wrong side up. They are in a bin I use for my painting but I haven’t noticed any storage wear or scratches yet. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a way to store watercolor pans and wants easy access to them for painting.

A Watercolor Palette that Works Perfectly for Me!!!
This is a compact, flexible and efficient way to store my Daniel Smith watercolors. I have tried other palettes, but this one really works for me. The tin holds 36 half pans. The magnets keep them from moving around, but it's easy to take out the colors I need for painting...and then just put them back in when I'm done. It's extremely lightweight and portable for travel or plein air painting. I wrote the color name and pigment numbers on the sides of the half pans with Sharpie, and created a swatch sheet that I keep in the lid so I can easily locate specific colors and they don't get mixed up when I take them out. My only complaint is that the lid of the tin is a little tight. I only have one empty pan left in this tin, so I will soon be buying another!

Poor quality
This is very cheaply made and nothing like any of my other watercolor pallettes. When you recieve it you have to add small magnets to the bottom of each pan and I am doubtful that they will hold very well. To add to that each little pan is rectangular but they have rounded the corners of the pallette so of course things are not fitting properly. I would never waste my money on this again.

Nice box, you can adjust the pans inside
The box is ok, the pans are good shape and size as "half pans", but the glue on the magnetic squares that you're supposed to attach to the bottom of the pans is poor and the magnet comes apart from the pan every time I take it out of the box (the magnet remains stuck to the bottom of the box). I guess I'll have to spend some time re-glueing all the magnets to all the pans. I don't mind it, but I find that - if I'm paying money for a new product - that's supposed to work when I get it and not need my improvements. Just sayin.

Disappointing for the price
Disappointing for several reasons: the box is rounded whereas the cups are square, loss of space which leaves more cups than necessary out of the box. The magnets do not stick to the cups at all, they come off and stay stuck to the box. Not practical. Had to re-glue each and every cup with a glue gun.

Good product
The half pans are small, but empty full pans are available to replace them. This unit is very compact and the magnets hold the plastic pans firmly in place. It is easy to remove pans to clean them or to make it easier to mix colors. Good value in a budget item.

There is no longer any white mixing areas inside the container
I bough this because someone said in the reviews that there were 3 white mixing areas inside the lid of this container. That is not true, just the smooth silver inside of the tin which I guess you could still use. Otherwise it does the job it says it's going to do.
