Perfect part for R170 2001 SLK 320
Exact replacement, works perfectly. Very easy 5-10 min install. Open and securely prop up the hood with a 2x4, etc. Remove the clip at the top of the strut and lay the strut down. Then use a smaller flat screwdriver to pry out the clip on the lower part just enough to pop it off of the knob. Once strut has been removed, press the small “push” button on the plastic sleeve and pull the metal part of the strut out of the plastic sleeve to extend the strut to the second indent (for the push button) on the sleeve. The plastic push button assembly screws onto the end of the strut but this can stay inside the plastic sleeve (the push button holds it in place) - just unscrew the old core (metal) strut, remove it, insert the new strut and and screw it in to the end assembly. Once tight, press the push button and push the strut body completely back into the plastic sleeve to lock it into the first “push” button hole*. Then, just press the lower end back onto the knob (no need to remove or loosen the clip when installing but you might need channelocks or similar pliers) support the hood with your left shoulder and remove and set down the 2x4, slide the upper end of the strut back on (with the “push” button facing forward/down), and then slide the locking clip back on to hold the top in place. While still supporting the hood, make sure that both ends are secure. Enjoy - you are done!* Note that the strut may have a plastic cover on the end of the strut where the piston extends. This cover isn’t present on the OEM strut and doesn’t fit into the sleeve and will pop off when the strut is fully retracted into the sleeve. If yours has this cover, just cut it off after it pops off with a box knife (or scissors, etc.), being careful to not ding or score the metal piston when doing so.

Correct part for a Crossfire hood
Pretty easy to install. Need to realize you need pieces from the original lift, so don’t throw it out

Been working great
Been working great for 6 months now. Granted I don’t open the hood all the time but when I had to, the new strut worked like it was supposed to. Highly recommend this. I used it on a 2000 Mercedes SLK230. You have to reuse the original strut adapter and fit it on this strut. There’s YouTube videos how to do that.

Easy to install
With the information provided by previous reviewers the fear that you may have ordered the wrong item is Eliminated and you learn the easiest method of installation (only disconnect the bottom of the old strut).

Works fine, you have to be handy to install
Some reviews are bad duebto people do not uderstand what are they buying or have no idea how to work with tools. This is the INSERT that goes inside your existing part instead of the broken strut, you have to do some work. Threads at the end are coarser, nevertheless it works fine, since you thread into plastic. We will see how it will hold up

Worked and fit well
A bit difficult to install as there are no directions and it is not straightforward that this (at least for my auto) piece fits inside the original casing… had it for 3 months and so far no problems.

Doesn’t fit
The advertisement says it fits my car, but it doesn’t. The way it attaches is different and now to ship it back costs me shipping. Amazon says it fits but it doesn’t. Amazon should cover the return shipping cost because they say it fits.
