What exactly is the relic sent with the medal?

Just to be clear: a relic from a Catholic saint may be obtained for an unsuggested donation but if it is sold in the market for a price it constitutes the grave sin of simony and is no longer a relic ( see Canon law). It then just becomes a bit of fandom like a pop star’s signature. However, if you then take the item have it cleansed, blessed by a priest and placed against say a first class relic at an appropriate monastery for example, you may then have a genuine relic on your hands. Relics are meant to help the faithful not to be a cottage industry so be careful out there.
