Charles Evans' Pocket Book for Watercolour Artists: Over 100 Essential Tips to Improve Your Painting (WATERCOLOUR ARTISTS' POCKET BOOKS)

Although the book arrived water damaged it's a great book for beginners. Very useful and easy to understand.

Great content. Only issue is the type is small making it difficult for older eyes to read it.

This book is simply written but a treasure trove of tips and pictures painted by the author. It’s not so wordy that you rush through to find something relevant. He is an accomplished artist and teacher. He shares what he has gleaned through years of painting. I recommend this for beginners and experienced artists.

I bought the Kindle version of the book after watching his YouTube videos. I’m learning as I go, and the thing I like about this book and his videos is how simply he breaks things down for new painters. I can’t tell you how many paint brushes I bought because this blog said I’d need these, or this video was saying I need to have other ones…and so I kept just buying them, and all the paints and colors they recommended. And then I watched one of Charles’ videos and I felt like an idiot knowing I’d never use most of what I purchased.His explanation on the 8 paints he uses and how mix them to achieve different colors is extremely helpful, because yes, having dozens of “convenience” colors is nice…but it’s simpler and cheaper to only need those eight colors and the “know how” to create the other colors you need. That one “tip” about colors needed and how to mix them, also explained what each color and/or mixed colors were perfect to paint trees, skies, etc. That whole color section was worth buying this book. And color was just one thing I learned.This book helps you get comfortable with some really good basic knowledge, which is really helpful as you gain the confidence needed to then go on and experiment on your own. I highly recommend this book for beginners. I wish I had bought it BEFORE I bought any of my supplies when I decided to give watercolor a try, as I’d have saved a ton of money.

I am a beginner watercolor artist and I really wish I had purchased this book before any others! Before I purchased so many tubes of paint and brushes. This is the best book. I have learned SO MUCH and I have been at this learning phase for a while now. Lots of books and videos with so many differing opinions. Charles Evans shares an incredible amount of logical knowledge in this little book.

I find the info very useful and clear. I agree with other reviewers that this is not exactly a book for very beginners. For people with at least some experience in watercolor painting, it is very helpful

This book is everything and more than I expected. Mr. Evens’ book is very instructional with many illustrations on each subject.I watch Mr Evens painting demonstrations on YouTube which I have learned much from.

I use it to improve my painting. His instructions on color mixing are invaluable. I also watch his lessons on YouTube. My son ordered my copy for me, and I sent copy to my granddaughter who is learning to paint, and she loves it too!
