Completing the circuit lights it up. If the circuit is broken, it won’t light up

You can use it to check that 12v is getting to the heater wire. Locate the live feed to the heater wire and test it. The actual heating wire on the window is sealed with a plastic tape over it so I wouldn't be poking that. Check your fuses first.
