The Mystery of History, Vol. 3: The Renaissance, Reformation, and Growth of Nations Hardcover – January 1, 2008

This is perhaps the best history lesson that I have ever experienced. I did purchase it as a new homeschooling mum a few years ago even though I knew that it was a bit beyond my son at the time. My son is 15 now and we enjoy the lessons very much. We do this together, one lesson per day about 4 days per week. We don't do the activities associated as we simply cannot fit it into our timetable and just reading about this stuff (he is listening which is a skill he is getting better at even though he plays with the cat, walks around the balcony at the same time.) We recap the lesson before hand and I ask him if he remembers anything about it before we read the next lesson. It is written so well and this is good because I understand it too. We use it as part of our geography and use a world map and atlas as we explore different places as we come across them. This is the most useful resource that we currently have in our homeschool program. It is absolutely brilliant. It is one resource that I will always keep, long after homeschooling finishes.It is so refreshing when you have been raised up in the public school system and being utterly confused about creation vs evolution and how it all fits together with the people they taught us about. There is another great Christian resource that seems to tie in nicely with this one. It is a book of 4 books titled 'Lightkeepers - ten boys - complete box set' by Irene Howat; which looks at these historical men as children and about their upbringing. Quite good for teen boys that don't like to read much.

I'm going through this book with my 9th grader and we both love it. We are learning so many fascinating details about historical people and events that they never teach in public school. *History is much more than memorizing dates, names and places.The author does an amazing job of staying unbiased throughout the different cultures and "styles" of this time period. She gives great background on each person's life as well as their accomplishments and or struggles. My son and I look forward to each new lesson to see who we get to learn about next! It's great see him desiring to learn, and re-telling important facts to other family members.I can't wait to read her other volumes because they are interesting, informative and empowering to know about our world history!

I already have the first two volumes and wanted to complete the set. These are great for our homeschool.

These are the most enjoyable history books (in textbook form) we've used. The author writes in a conversational style, and brings out tidbits of interesting information one doesn't find in school textbooks. The chronological order of the books plus the "living history" style of writing lends to keep childrens' interest and furthers understanding of the flow of events in history.

Nothing is wrong with it, great product.
